STOP AND WASTE COCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. *7, 1914.
Application filed January 27, 1913. Serial No. 744,451.
ToaZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK TIBBLE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Muskegon, in the county of Muskegon and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stop and Taste Cocks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to stop and waste cocks and more particularly to a combined cock and waste box.
It is among the objects of the invention to provide a unitary structure of the type above mentioned which will protect the valve and properly conduct the waste therefrom.
A further object is to obtain a simple, compact and inexpensive construction for manufacture which may be readily connected as a unit to the ordinary supply pipes.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a valve embodying my invention, applied to the supply pipe; Fig. 2 is a cross section; and Fig. 3 is a cross section at right angles to that of Fig. 2.
A is a valve box having the threaded inlet portion B and the threaded outlet portion B adapted to be connected respectively to two sections C G of a supply pipe. This valve box comprises an inner chamber D and an outer chamber D. Cooperating with the inner chamber is a plug valve E having the usual passage F through which a communication between the sections C and C is established in one position of adjustment of the valve. Upon the rotation of the valve E to another position of adjustment the section G is shut off and the section G connected with the outer chamber D through the valve opening G which connects with the passage F. Passage F now registers with the open ing H in the wall between the inner and outer chambers D and D. The parts are preferably positioned so that the full change in adjustment is obtained by one quarter turn of the valve E, but the valve openings may be positioned so as to drain either G or C as desired.
In order that the valve may be conveniently actuated the outer chamber D is apertured at its upper end to permit of the insertion of the operating rod I. This apertured portion is preferably threaded as at J to receive a protecting cap or pipe member K. The lower portion of the outer chamber is similarly apertured at L and also preferably threaded for connection with a means such as the ordinary drain pipe M for conducting away the waste discharged into the outer chamber D.
The two chambers D and D are preferably cast integral and both located intermediate the threaded inlet and outlet portions B B, the latter portions having their axes extending transversely to that of the valve E. While I have shown a valve of the plug type, it is obvious that the employment of other types of valves is within the scope of my invention.
In use, the entire structure can be readily connected up to the pipe sections in place of the ordinary waste cock and any desired connections made with the threaded portions of the outer chamber.
What I claim as my invention is:
As an article of manufacture, a stop and waste cock plumbing unit, comprising transversely-extending chambers, the end portions of one of said chambers being apertured and threaded for inlet and outlet connections respectively, a valve adapted in one position of adjustment to establish through connection between said threaded portions and in another position of adjustment to cut off one of said threaded portions and to connect the other to the transversely-extending chamber, said last-mentioned chamber being positioned wholly within the end spaced limits of said threaded portions and having its opposite ends apertured for drainage and valve operating connections respectively.
In testimony whereof I a'flix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK TIBBLE.
