Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. @1914.
Application filed March 26, 1913. Serial No. 756,909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALONZO K. RAGSDALE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamilton, Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Storm-Front for Baby-Carriages, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a cheap, durable, convenient, and easily adjusted storm front especially adapted to baby carriages and the like.
One exemplifying form of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in Which Figure 1 isa rear perspective view of the storm front removed from the carriage. Fig. 2 is a front view of a baby carriage with the storm front in active position. Fig. 3 is a rear diagonal view of the same. Fig. 4 is a front diagonal view of the storm front in raised position on the carriage.
Reference character 1 designates a storm front or cover proper, consisting of suitable material such as pantasote, rubberized cloth, leather, or any other suitable material.
In the preferred form of the invention is a window 2, usually of celluloid or the like to permit folding of the front when not in use and to prevent injury in case of breakage. The front has a curved or scoop-like form, as indicated inFig. 1, to adapt it to readily fit the top and foot-board and to inclose the sides of an ordinary baby carriage. The shape may be considerably varied and may be produced in various ways by making the front in separate gores, as indicated at a, b, 0. In the upper edge of the front is run an elastic band 3 and near the bottom edge is another similar band 4. These bands meet at the sides-at 5 and may be stitched or tied together, or may be conveniently secured in rings 6, as shown. A third band 7 is also connected at the oints 5. In use, band 7 is snapped around the back of the carriage as shown in Fig. 3, so that it holds band 3 around the front edge of the carriage top T. The storm front may then be folded up upon the top as shown in Fig. 4 for fair weather, and in case of rain may be quickly pulled down and secured in the position shown in Fig. 2 by snapping band 4 around the foot-board F of the carriage. In some cases the carriages are provided with studs S, projecting at the pivot point of the top T and in such cases the rings 6 may be placed over these studs, but this practice is not at all essential.
The principal advantages of my invention consist in its cheapness, convenience, effective protection against rain or wind, and its capacity for being easily folded and stored away, and as easily adjusted to the carriage either in operative or inoperative position. v i
I claim:
A. storm front adapted to be applied to baby carriages and the like, having a top, said storm front comprising a hood-like body having hemmed edges, elastic bands passing through said edges and connected at each side of the body, and an elastic band connected to said first mentioned bands at their intersections, said last mentioned band being. adapted to pass around the body of a baby. carriage and secure the hood in position with the hemmed edges overlapping the top and the foot-board of said carriage, respectively.
ALONZO K. RAGSDALE.
