Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 24, 1914.
Application filed. May 19, 1910. Serial No. 562,191.
T 0 all wh-0m it may concern Be it known that I, GABRIEL GELoRMINr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the -count-y of Essex and State of New Jersey,.have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has reference, generally, to improvements in garments for men and boys; and, the present invention relates, more particularly, to a novel arrangement of combined trousers and belt therefor, the said belt being preferably made inthe form of a belt-portion, said belt-portion extending along the front portion of the usual waist-band of the trousers, and being preferably made of the same material as that of which the garment is made.
The invention has for its principal object to provide a novel garment in the form of trousers provided with a belt or belt-portion inseparably connected therewith, the said belt or belt-portion extending along the front portion of the waist band of the trousers, and forming an integral part of the rear portion of said waist-band of said trousers,
all with a view of producing the appearance of the arrangement of a separate belt arranged in position, when the trousers are worn, and also having a neat appearance, the belt-members, when buckled together, remaining in their fixed positions, so that there will be no untidy appearance of the parts, as is so often the case when an independent or separate belt is worn with the trousers. All the functions of an ordinary belt, together with additional novel advantages are provided by my combined trousers and beltconstruction.
A further object of my present invention y to the wearer, but a proper fit to the trouser waist-line. As will be readily understood, after eating the abdomen and waist-line is frequently distended to thepoint of discomfort when surrounded by the ordinary inflexible waist-band, as provided in the ordinary construction of trousers, and to secure relief it is frequently necessary, to unbutton the trouser-fly at the top to release the pressure of the waist-band, thus causing a very turbing the set of the trousers. With my novel construction of compensating waistband, the waist-band itself yields to the pressure of the abdomen, as much as is necessary, to compensate forthe temporary distribution, returning automatically to its normal waist-measure when the abdomen itself is relieved. Thus, a perfect fit of the waistband is assured at all times, as wellas securing a sightly appearance, and comfort to the wearer.
Other objects of the present invention not at this time more particularlyy mentioned detailed description of the same.
My invention consists, therefore, in the novel combined trousers and belt-portion hereinafter more particularly described, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claim which is appended to and which form an essential part of this specification.
p The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of a pair of trousers embodying the principles of my present invention, the same being provided with the novel construction of waist-band and belt-portion connected therewith. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken through said novel construction of waist-band and beltportion, on line 2 2 in said Fig. l. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail inside face view of a portion of said waist-band, illustrating more particularly its expansible construction, but shown in its normal or non-expanded position. Fig. 4 is a detail horizontal section of the same, taken on line 4 4 in said Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a view similar to that shown in Fig. 3, but illustrating the said novel construction of waist-band in its expanded position. Fig. 6 is a detail horizontal section of the same, taken on line 6-6 in said Fig. 5.
untidy appearance, and furthermore dis-l will be clearly evident from the following soV Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the herein-above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now to the several figures of the said drawings, the reference-character 1 indicates a pair of trousers, provided with the usual fly-front 2. The said trousers 1 are cut in the usual way providing the front parts 3 and the rear parts 4, the said parts being oined at the in-seams and outer seams. The rear parts 4 of the trousers are each provided at the waist-band with forwardly extending strips or bands 5 adapted to form belt-portions, said strips or bands being preferably cutso as to form integral portions of the rear parts 4 of said trousers; but, it will be clearly apparent, that, if it is so desired, the said strips or bands 5 may be cut separately and joined to the said rear parts 4, by means of any desirable stitching at the outer seam, joining said rear parts with the front parts 3.V The said forwardly extending strips or bands 5 are so constructed, that the free end of one of the same may be provided with any desirable type or design of belt-buckle 6, while the free end of the other strip or band 5 is finished with in the usual manner of a belt-end 7 and its body-portion is provided with a plurality of belt-holes S, the ends being thus capable of being brought 'together and secured in the manner of the ordinary belt. rIhe said front parts 8 of the trousers 1 are provided at the waist-line with the desired number of beltloops 9, through which the said strips or bandsvmay be passed to assure their proper alinement and position at the waist-line.
It will be clearly apparent, that when the belt-portions thus provided are drawn together and buckled, the waist-portions of the trousers are drawn smoothly across the back of the wearer; and, together with the said belt-portions afford a comfortable, si'ghtly and eective means for supporting said trousers upon the wearer, and the novel construction thus provided, obviates all bunching and wrinkling of the trousers at the waist-line, either in the back or front, as will be clearly understood. The belt-portions are always in place and are attractive in appearance, because made of the same material or goods as that of the trousers themselves, although I do not limit myself to this feature, for, if other colors or material than that ofthe trousers is desired, the same may be used, and still be within the scope of my invention.
I To further insure the trousers from wrinkling or bunching at the waist-line, and also to provide a yielding or compensating waistline in said trousers, the front portion 3 of said trousers are cut in such a manner, so as to form at the waist-line and over the hips when joined at the outer seam to said rear portions 4, a V-shaped gore or opening 10.
Normally, this V-shaped gore or opening 10 is closed, so that the side marginal edges 11 of said front portion 3 abut with the side marginal edges 12 of the rear portions 4'. When so arranged, the trousers waist-line is normal, as fitted to the normal body-measure at that point. Then in this position, the trouser lining 13, which extends around the inner side of the waist-line, being sewn or connected to both the front and rear portions of the trouser, is provided, at a point registering with said V-shaped gore or opening 10, with a fullness forming a fold or plait 14. Secured to the respective front and rear portions of the trousers, preferably, upon the inner or lining side is an elastic band 15 of any desirable elastic material, the same being secured in such a manner, that the one end 16 thereof is sewn to a front portion 3 and the other end 17 is sewn to a rear portion 4, so as to draw the said gore or opening 10 to its normally closed position and thus form the fold or plait 14 in said lining, as shown more particularly in Figs. 3 and 4. Now, if for any cause, the waistline or abdomen-measure of the wearer increases, the said belt-portions may be loosened and readjusted, and the waist-line of the trousers will automatically expand to the desired increase, owing to the yieldable character of said elastic-band 15. The gore or opening 10 will now open and the slack of the lining 13 at the fold or plait 14 will be taken up, as shown in Figs. 5 and G of the drawings. As soon as the waist-line or abdomen-measure resumes its normal measure, the said elastic-band 15 will cause the parts above described to resume their normal initial positions, as will be clearly evident. The advantages of this construction, coupled with the belt-portion, will be clearly apparent, as affording comfort, and maintaining a proper tit and hang to the trousers at all times; and, furthermore, the belt-portions cannot slip out of place and always appear neat and trim.
I claim In trousers, or the like, the combination with the rear waist-portions thereof, of forwardly extending strips or bands attached to the outer face of said waist-portions, beltloops upon the outer faces of the front waistportions of the trousers for t-he reception of said strips or bands, the free end of one of said strips or bands being provided with a buckle, the free end of the other strip or band being provided with buckle-holes, and said free ends of the strips or bands being adapted to be joined together at the front of the waist-line of the trousers, said trousers being formed between the front and rear portions and extending downwardly from the waist-line with gores, lining-portions foldably arranged over said gores upon the inner portions of the trousers, said lining portions forming expansible p1aits,and elas- In testimony, that I claim the invention tic bands secured respectively to said liningset forth above I have hereunto set my hand portions and the inner front and rear porthis 16th day of May, 1910.
