FIG. 2
INVENTOH ATTORNEY 'llhllTEU @TATE% PATENT @FFTQE.
JOHN FEKEITE, OF ELIZABETH, N'El/V JERSEY.
LOCK.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN FEKETTE, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawmg.
This invention relates to looks, and more particularly to that class known as pad looks.
The primary object of my invention is to furnish a lock of the above type with simple and effective means, as hereinafter set forth, for holding the shackle of the lock in a manner that it is unnecessary to resort tothe use of tumblers, wards and other key actuated elements.
Another object of this invention is to provide a barrel lock having a longitudinally disposed shackle that can be easily and quickly released, whereby the lock can be used in connection with large staples and hasps;
A further object of this invention is to provide a lock consisting of comparatively few parts that are inexpensive to manufacture, durable and highly efficient for the purposes for which they are intended.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construc tion, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing wherein Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the lock showing the shackle in a locked position, Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the shackle released, and Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the look.
A lock in accordance with this invention comprises a barrel 1 that has one end thereof provided with a thick wall 2 and wlth oppositely disposed lugs 3. Pivot-ally mounted between the lugs 3 by a rivet 4 or other pivotal means is a longitudinally disposed curved shackle 5 that has a hookshaped end 6 adapted to extend into a cut away portion 7 provided therefor in the end of the barrel. Slidably mounted in the barrel is a cylindrical bolt 8 and said bolt has a transverse slot 9 providing ClQELlZLl'lLE for a transverse pin 10, carried by the barrel, said pin limiting the movement of the Specification of Letters Patent.

bolt 8 within the barrel. The outer end of the bolt is provided with a recess 11 to re ceive the hook-shaped end 6 of the shackle, and the inner end of said boltis reduced, as at 12 and provided with a stem 13 that extends into a longitudinal opening 14 provided therefor in the end wall 2 of the barrel. The reduced end of the bolt is encircled by a coiled compression spring 15, which is interposed between the bolt and the end wall 2.
The stem 13 has a longitudinal bore 16 and the walls of said bore are screw threaded to receive a screw 17 having a head or handle 18, said screw serving as a key to the lock. By screwing the screw 17 into the stem 13, the screw and stem can be pulled outwardly, the spring 15 placed under ten sion, and the bolt 8 shifted longitudinally of the barrel, whereby the hook-shaped end of the shackle will be released, as shown in Fig. 2, thereby permitting of the shackle be ing swung to an open position.
A look in accordance with this invention is made of a strong and durable metal, and while in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that the structural ele ments are susceptible to such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A look comprising a barrel having one end wall of greater thickness than the other, said thinner end Wall cut away adjacent the periphery to provide an opening, a curved shackle pivotally connected at one terminus to said thicker end and provided with a hook adapted to extend in said opening, a cylindrical bolt slidably mounted in said barrel and having one end adjacent the periphery recessed for the reception of said hook, said bolt having a reduced end provided with a stem projecting from the thickened end of the barrel, a coiled compression spring mounted upon the reduced end of the bolt, and a screw adapted to be mounted in said stem to facilitate shifting the bolt to release the shackle.
2. A look comprising a barrel having one end wall of greater thickness than the other, said thinner end wall cut away to provide an opening, a curved shackle pivotally connected at a terminus to said thicker end and provided with a hook adapted to extend in said opening, a cylindrical bolt slidably mounted in said barrel and having one end means for limiting the movement in either 10 adjacent the periphery recessed for the redirection of said bolt.
ception of said hook, said bolt having a re- In testimony whereof I afiix my signaduced end provided with a stem projecting ture in the presence of two witnesses. from the thickened end of the barrel,., a 7, JOHN FEKETTE.
coiled compression spring mounted upon the reduced end of the bolt, a screw adapted to Witnesses:
be mounted in said stem to facilitate shift- Jon PEUVEHER, ing the bolt to release the shackle, and SZXNDOR FoDoR.
