Description

A; GULLBERG & G. L. SMITH. JOGGINGATTAUHMENT FOR SIGNATURE GATHERING MACHINES.
' APPLICATION FILED JUNE 12, 1912.
lfififi'm; Patented Mar. 17, 1914.
'1 by GAJJWQLL i I w @W Attest: In V611 i01 part 2 5 of the horizontal platform 26 and rests against the yielding vertical follower I book previously delivered upon the platform 27 on said platform 26 or against a gathered 26 and resting against the follower 27. The corresponding frame composed of the crossed rods 18 and 19 moves downward when the corresponding cam roller 8 travels upon the eccentric part 13 of the cam, which serves to hold and maintain the-corresponding rods 19 in vertical position, While they are sliding down until their upper ends have passed beneath the horizontal plane of the platform25 and then the rollers 8 gradually run upon the concentric part of the rim of the cam and thereby the arms 19 on the shafts 6 are gradually swung downward and then upward so as to be in horizontal position when they again move up to the platform 20 upon which the books have been delivered by the conveyer of the gathering machine and so on As the supporting frames composed of the rods 1.8 and 19 move down vertically when leaving the gathering book of signatures, which book now stands vertically on the plat-form25, they cannot have any disturbing or disarranging effect whatever upon the jogged signatures coniprising the book and they do not jar the same, but deliver them in perfect manner upon the platform 25-26. The followerJZT, which is movable on the platform 25-26 stands vertically on the same and is connected with a cord or rope 28 which passes over guide pulleys 29 and 30 and carries a weight i at its lower end; which serves to press the follower 27 toward the left.
The gathered books of signatures are thus automatically removed from the conveyer guide of the signature gatherer, are automaticallyplaced on edge while being carried through an arc of 90, are jogged while restmg on edge and are delivered ready for removal without subjecting the signatures to any disarranging ars or shocks.
is a'curved retaining guide for the side edges of the signatures and is suitably secured to one of the brackets 2 or a rigid and fixed part of the machine.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure. bv Letters Patent is i l; The combination with the signature conveyor guide of a signature gathering machine, of a rotary structure, supports carried by the said structure for carrying piles of gathered signatures, and means for vibrating said supports while carrying said piles of gathered signatures, substantially asset forth.
2. The combination with the signature conveyer guide of a signature gathering machine, of a rotary structure, supports on said structure for carrying piles of gathered signatures, a fixed platform upon which the piles are delivered by the said supports, said platform being at a higher elevation than the conveyor guide of the signature gathering machine, and means forwibrating the book supports in their passage from the plane of the conveyer guide to the said platform, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination with the signature conveyor guide of .a signature gathering machine, of a rotary structure, right angled book supports mounted pivotally on said structure, a fixed cam, adjacent-t0 which cam the said structure. rotates, and tilting arms connected with the supports and acted upon by the cam, and means for vibrating the book supports in their passage from the plane of the conveyer guide to said platform, substantially as set forth.
4. The combination with the. conveyor guide of av signature-gathering machine, of a rotary structure, rocking shafts on the same,
signature supports on said rocking shafts, a
fixed cam adjacent to the rotary structure, and arms on the rocking shafts traveling on said cam, and means for vibrating the book supports in their passage from the plane of the conveyor guide to said platform, substantially as set forth.
5. The combination with the conveyer guide of a signattire-gathering machine, of a rotary structure, a rigid supporting platform at a higher elevation than the conveyor guide, supports on the rotary structure for conveying piles of gathered signatures from the conveyor guide to said supporting platform and to bring them from a horizontal to a vertical position, a fixed cam adjacent to the rotary structure and means for controlling the positions of said supports on the rotary structure by said cam, and means for vibrating the book supports in their passage from the plane' of the conveyor guide tosaid platform, substantially as set forth. I
6. The combination with the conveyor guide of a signature gathering machine, of a rotary structure, a series of rocking supports on the same for piles of gathered signatures, a horizontal platform adjacent to said structure and on a higher plane that the conveyer guide, a fixed cam mounted concentrically with the rotating structure and provided on its edge between the end of the conveyor guide and the beginning of the elevated platform, with undulations and tilting pivoted supports. en-
means carried by the I cam, substantially as gaging the edge of the set forth.
7. The combination with the conveyor guide of a signature gathering machine, of a rotary structure, a series of rocking supports on the same, for piles of gathered signatures, a horizontal platform adjacent to said structure and on a higher plane than the con- Vcyer guide. a. liked ean'l mounted coneentricall" with the rotating structure and provided on its edge between the end of the con- Veyer guide and the beginning of the elevated platform with undulations and tilting which the means carried by the pivoted supports en- 1.5
gaging the edgeiof the cam, said cam having eccentric parts in that part of its rim along supports travel when moving (l0WI1Wtl1tl, substantially as set forth.
