COMBINED GENERATOR AND BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 16, 1913.
Patented Mar. 10, 1914. Serial No. 768,129.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SIDNEY A. CHRISTIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fulbright, in the county of Red River and State or" Texas, have invented new and useful lm jirovements in Combined Generators and Burners, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a combined generator and burner designed particularly for use with the lighter hydro-carbons and adapted for service in stoves or ranges, or any heating furnace.
The main object of the present invention is the provision of a generator and burner in which the fuel in liquid form is fed through a system of pipes forming the genorator and leading to the ignition point or points, the heat from the flame at the ignition point serving to convert the liquid into a gas.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means whereby the flame from the burners or ignition points may be spread or deflected at the will of the user for the particular purpose of cooking or the like.
The invention in its preferred form of details will be described. in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in whichz- Figure 1 is a perspective View of the im proved generator and burner. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional View on a line taken through one of the shields.
The improved generator and burner comprises a pipe 1 leading from any suitable source, preferably asupply under pressure. A hand operated valve 2 controls the flow through the pipe 1, as will be evident. At the terminal of the pipe 1 the latter is provided with a T connection with the pipe 4. From the terminals of the pipe l extend longitudinal pipes 5 which through U connections 6 support and are in open communication with the longitudinally extending pipes 7 connected at the ends remote from the inlet with the short pipe 8 from which extends a longitudinally arranged burner pipe 9. The burner pipe at the end adjacent the inlet of the pipe 1 is closed preferably by a plug 10, and said burner pipe is provided at appropriate points in its length with openings 11 forming a burner. A semi-cylindrical open casing 12 underlies the pipe 9 throughout that portion of the length included within the burner section, said casing serving as the starting cup, and adapted to receive a supply of fuel which when ignited will start generation of the gas in the pipe 9.
Slidably mounted in brackets 13 secured to the pipe 1 is a rod lt having its outer end, which projects beyond the stove front formed to provide an oilset handle 15. Shields 16 are slidably mounted upon the pipe 1 through brackets 17, said brackets having projections 18 which connect with crank portions 19 of the rod 14. The shields 16 are of such size and so located that by movement of the rod they may be operated lengthwise the pipe 1 to a position above the burner openings 11 whereby flame from the burners may be deflected or spread. The rod 1 may also be manipulated to turn the shields vertically to direct heat from the flame in any desired direction or to move the shields to a position wholly beyond the burners, so that the flame may be directly applied to the coo-king utensil supported on the stove top above it.
The operation of the device will be apparent from the description taken in connection with the drawings, it being understood that atter initial generation the heat from the burners maintains an effective generating heat for the adjacentpipe sections and so converts the incoming liquid fuel into gas.
What is claimed is A combined burner and generator including a fuel inlet pipe, a burner pipe and a series of communicating intermediate pipes, deflecting shields movably mounted on the inlet pipe, and a lever mounted for rotary and longitudinal movement on the inlet pipe and connected to the deflecting shields.
in testimony whereof I atiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SIDNEY A. CHRISTIAN.
