FOR 'EREVENTING THE DECOMPCSI OXYGEN CONTAIIQ'ED IN AIR.
Specification of Iietters Patent.
To all whom it may concern. Be it known that L ALBERT Aronnnn, citizen of the Swiss Republic,
at-Baden, Switzerland, have invented a certain new and useful Device on Tinusformers for Preventing the Decomposition of Oil by: the Oxygen Contained. in Air of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to protection of oil in transformers contact with normal or heated air. In transformers in which oil is employed difficulties arise due to this in practice which ordinarily necessitate hermetically sealing the transformer box to prevent oxidation of the oil. r
The object of the'present invention is to provide an improved method and means for this purpose which does not require the transformer- The invention consists in tneprovision between the transformer oil' or the main the like With or Without a further quantity of oil, means also being I expansion of the 01l on'heating 1s permitted.
to take place Without causing injury or rise of pressure.
Referring to the accompanying diagram matic drawings, Figure 1 "shows one manner of applying the invention to an air cooled transformer, and-Fig. 2 to a water cooled transformer.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 1, the transformer coils indicated by Z) are placed inside a containing case a -thr ugh the cover 0 oi which are passed the bobbin leads. Thecover 0 does not form a hermetic closure with the case a,- holes e being provided through which air can-pass inside the case. The case a is substantially filled with oil but sufiicient room is left to "permit the oil to expand on heating. space f above the surface of the oil'there is provided material such as cork, a non-conductor of heat and electricity and lighter than oil. TWith transformer o'fthis kind air can be freely passed through the venti- 1 lating holes a Without seriously affecting the hot oil and the expansion of this. oil .on
and residing from oxidization due to box to be sealedhermetically.

heating can readily move the non-conductmg rrass g,'which maybeformed of a single a of such piates.
the IGZIIl or he nvention shown in Fig. 3. a moi ed system is applied to a c atter cooled transfcrmer. in this case a diaphragn'i- 5, which may be "of wood is ar ranged at some littlede'pth below the surface of the oil-and perforated to permit expansion of the oil on heatinf Vwater cooling coils h are provided'and-these can be arranged. as snown both in the main hulk of the oil below the diaphragm" and the In. operation this small part of.

the oil abo fe the diaphragm constitutes a seal and-hence no oxidation can take place of the oil below the diaphragm.
