Description

IRD iateg mf @fide HECTOR o. HAVEMEYER AND DAVID 1. DURDoN, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 108,783, dated November 1, 1870.
f IMPROVEMENT IN LEATHER-SCOURING MACHINES. I
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the-same.
To all whom it may concern l Be it known that we, HECTOR C. HAVEMEY'ER and DAVID P. BUnDoN, of the city of New York, in the county and State of NewA York, have invented a new and Improved Leather-scouring Machine; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
'and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use thc same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
Figure l represents a side elevation ot' our improved leather-scouring machine.
Figure 2 is a plan or top View of the same.
Similar letters of reference parts.
This invention relates t'o anew machine for dressing and scouring leather, and consists in the employment of a hinged scouring-bed, held by means of springs against the rotating scouring-tool, which is hung in a fixed frame. The 'hinged bed is applied to a hinged able, which can be held nearer to o1.fnrther off the table by means of 'a toggle lever orequivalent mechamsm.
. Ain the drawing represents the s'couring-cylinder,
hung in a stationary fra'me B, and connected with snitable machinery whereby it receives rotary motion. It
carries on its rim stones and brushes, or other suitable scouring or dressing implements, fastened in suitable manner.
The sconring-bed C is at one end hinged to a table,
indicate corresponding connected with a treadle or handle, G, can be used to force the table and bed with suitable poweragainst the cylinder. 'f
A spring or springs, b, intelposed between the free end ofthe bed G and the table, serves to hold the said bed against the cylinder.
The upper or contact face of the bed may be made slightly concave, as shown, to receive `a sheet, H, of leather, rubber, or other material, which is stretched overdts ends to constitute a Acushion surface, upon which the leather to be treated is placed.
Having thus described our invention', l lVe'claim as n ew and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I "1. 'The adjustable bed C, hinged at one end and held against the scouring-cylinder by springs fitted under the other end, substantially'asY herein shown and described.
2. The hinged table D, made adjustable by means of levers or equivalent mechanism, and combined with the' hinged spring-bed 0,. substantially as herein shown and described.
