COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH Cu.. WASHINGTON. D. c.
'UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'FELIX LEMIEUX, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOS.
MOP.
Application led. December 23, 1912.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FELIX LEMIEUX, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Mops, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in mops and has for its object the provision of an impro-ved self-oiling mop.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invent-ion will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure l is a perspective view of a mop embodying my invention, Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal medial section of the mop head, and Fig. 3, a transverse section of the mop head.
The preferred form of construction as illust-rated in the drawing comprises a suitable clamp l arranged at the lower end of the handle 2. The mop h-ead proper is formed of two separable mop sections 3 which are removably secured in the clamp l, as will be readily understood. A tube 4 closed at one end and provided with a longitudinal slot in its under side is placed in clamp l between head sections 23, as indicated. A wick is formed by folding a strip of cloth 6 centrally over a string 7, said string and folded portions of said cloth being then inserted in tube 4 with the sides of said strip extending downwardly through the slot in the bottom of tube 4. This furnishes a simple and convenient method for securing the wick in position and for partially sealing the discharge slot of tube 4. rlhe open end of tube 4 is closed by a cap S having a slot therein passing over the wick and which also serves to maintain the wick in proper position.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1'?, 1914.
Serial No. 738,197.
In use the wick-strip 6 is placed in p0sition in tube 4 which is then filled with oil and closed by cap S. rlhe tube 4 is placed between the two mop sections 3 and said mop sections are clamped. against the sides of said tube by means of clamp l. The wick-strip 6 extending downwardly from tube 4 will slowly feed the oil to said mop head, as required.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination with a mop head, of a metallic tube closed at one end, open at the other end and embedded in said head, said tube having a longitudinal slot in one side thereof open at the open end of said tube; an elongated piece of porous material; a strip of cloth folded centrally over said piece of porous material, said piece and folded portion of said strip being inserted in said tube with the sides of said strip projecting through said slot; and a removable cap for the open end of said tube, substantially as described.
ln testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
