WITNESSES A 110mm ULYSSIS G. FUNK, OF EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO.
' INDICATING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 17, 1914.
Application filed September 7, 1912. Serial No. 719,096.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ULYssis Gr. FUNK, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Liverpool, in the county of Columb1ana and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Indicatin Devices, of which the following is a specification.-
My invention relates to indicating devices.
The object of my invention is to provide an indicating device operated by a clock to indicate certain facts.
A further object of my invention is to provide such a device as is useful in day schools and Sunday schools to indicate to the scholars whether or not they are tardy. The device is also useful in other relations as in oflices to indicate whether or not the employees are tardy.
The invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter de scribed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In these drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view with the indicator sign removed, and, Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the clock operated parts.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a pedestal or other support comprising legs 2, a post 3 and a shelf 1 suitably supported from the post.
The numeral 5 designates a rod which is mounted to turn in a slot 6 provided in the post 3. The rod 5 is suspended from an adjustable collar 7 having a set screw 8 passing therethrough and engaging the rod Said collar 7 is provided with a flange 9 which rests on the post 3. The rod 5 is preferably hollow and receives therein a rod 10 which is adjustable or extensible relatively thereto and adapted to be fixed in adjusted position by means of a set screw 11 passing through the rod 5. An angle arm 12 is provided at the upper extremity of the rod 10 and from said angle arm is suspend ed a sign or the like such as 13. The sign 13 is adapted to have printed on both sides thereof suitable facts. The sign that I have illustrated is preferably adapted for use in Sunday school rooms, and on one side thereof is printed I am early and on the opposite side thereof is printed I am late At the lower end of rod 5 is provided a crank arm 14 and adjacent the crank arm is secured to the rod, a spring 15 which is also secured to one of the legs 2. A vertical rod 16 depends loosely through a suitably enlarged slot in the shelf 4 and is adapted to extend across the crank arm 14. On the pedestal 1 is provided a stop pin 14 or the like, against which the arm 14 abuts in its movement to limit the movement of the supportin rods, and accordingly the sign to one ha f of a revolution.
The numeral 17 designates an alarm clock and 18 designates the alarm key thereof. To said alarm key, off center, is pivoted the rod 16.
Referring to Fig. 2, the rod 16 is shown as extending across the crank arm 1 1, and in such position the sign is supported so that the face of the sign opposite to that shown in Fig. 1 will be exposed on the same side as the face of the clock and indicating I am early. The alarm is previously set to operate at the time the service is called. WVhen the alarm operates, the key 18 is carried vertically and in such movement the rod 18 is moved from across or disengages the crank arm let, whereupon the spring 15 turns said rod half of a revolution so as to bring the face of the sign shown in Fig. 1 to the position there shown, so as to be on the same side as the face of the clock. Preparatory to another operation the crank arm is moved to the position shown in Fig. 2 and the alarm key operated and set so that the rod 16 will be in the position shown in Fig. 2.
It is clear that changes within the details of construction of the device may be made within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, in combination with a clock, a support, a shelf on said support for said clock, a hollow rod vertically adjustable in said support having an angle arm formed at the base thereof, a Vertically adjustable rod extending through the hollow of the said first mentioned rod, an angle arm formed at the top of the said last mentioned rod, a sign suspended from the said angle arm, and a clock operated member engaging the arm at the base of the said first mentioned rod for shifting the sign to various positions, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a device of the character described, in combination with a clock, a support having a vertically extending opening formed therein, a hollow rod carried by the said support and disposed to extend through the said opening, a collar arranged over the said hollow rod disposed for engagement with the top of the said support to maintain the rod in adjusted position, an angle arm formed at the base of the hollow rod, 21 second rod mounted for Vertical adjustment within the hollow of the said first mentioned rod, an angle arm formed at the top of the said last mentioned rod, a sign suspended from the said angle arm, and an operating rod depending from the said clock into the path of the angle arm formed upon the base of the hollow rod, the movement of which allows the said rod to he retated for shifting the sign into various positions. as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a device of the character described, in combination with a cloc \T, a support, a shelf on said support for said clock the said shelf having an opening formed therein, a vertically adjustable hollow rod carried by the said support, an angle arm formed integrally with the said red at the base thereof, an adjustable collar arranged Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. 0.
to embrace the said rod and engage the top of the said support to maintain the rod in adjusted position, a second vertically adjustable rod fitting within the hollow of the said first mentioned rod, means carried by r the said angle arm, a spring connecting the said hollow rod to the said support a stop depending from the said support in the path of the angle arm formed at the base of the said hollow rod, and a rod extending through the said shelf opening and depending from the said clock into the ath of the said angle arm of the hollow rod, the movcment of which causes the spring to partially 1'' "ate the said rods and shift the sign into various positions as and for the purpose set forth.
