UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RAY W. SCOTT, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO NEW YORK ATTACHABLE PLAYER ACTION 00., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
COLLAPSIBLE FEED MECHANISM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1914.
Application filed June 25, 1909. Serial No. 504,396.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RAY W. Scorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invent ed certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Feed Mechanism, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawmg.
My invention relates to improvements in collapsible feed mechanism for automatic player pianos and has particular reference to a music roll attachment and tracker board combination adapted to be collapsed and pushed back out of the way when not in use.
Referring to the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation partly in section illustrating an application of my invention. Fig. 2 a plan view also partly in section looking downwardly upon Fig. 1. Fig. 3 an end view looking from right to left at Fig. 1, Fig. 4 a similar view to Fig. 3 with the feeding mechanism folded back out of the way.
5 is the usual driving shaft upon which is mounted the loose pulley 6 and the pinion 8.
14.- and 15 are the music rolls mounted in slide and swinging bearings 17 and 11 respectively, and 16 is the music which is fed on and off the same.
10 is a slide to which is secured side piece 1717 adapted to slide in the guides 18 and 19 and carrying tracker board 12.
When in operation the music is fed from the roll 15 to the roll 14 which is driven by the pinion 8 upon the shaft 5, and for the purpose of re-winding, the shaft 5 may be pushed inwardly from right to left disengaging the pinion and gear 8 and 9 and causing the pins 19 and 20 on said shaft and loose pulley respectively to lock thereby driving the music roll 15 by the fast pulley 7 through the transmission cord 21.
22 is a guide pin made fast to the bearing 11 and engaging a suitable groove in the hub of the loose pulley 6 for the purpose of retaining the same in position upon the shaft 5.
When it is desired to discontinue the use of the attachment the bearings or brackets 1111 which carry the upper music roll are swung leftward upon the axis of the driving shaft 5 until they assume the position shown in Fig. 4 which is made possible by pushing the tracker board inwardly causing the entire mechanism to remain folded in out of the way.
23 are spring catches to hold the mechanism closed.
Of course it will be understood that various other modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a piano player, a collapsible music roll mechanism having a sliding member and a swinging member, each of said members having means to carry a music roll, said swinging member rotatably mounted upon said sliding member and being adapted to be moved therewith, said swinging member mounted upon an axis above and its music roll adapted to swing under said music roll upon said sliding member.
2. In a piano player, a collapsible music roll mechanism having a sliding member and a swinging member, each of said members having means to carry a music roll, said swinging member rotatably mounted upon said sliding member and being adapted to be moved therewith, and a tracker board secured to and movable independently of said sliding member.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RAY W. SCOTT.
