HENRY SEIB, 0F NEW YORK, N.
. Letters Patent No. 108,525, dated October 18, 1870.
now- IMPRCVEMENT `IN VEGETABLE-CUTTERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letten; Patent and making part of the lame.`
To all whom 'it ana/y concerns Be it known that I, HENRY SEIB, of the city, county, and State of' New York, have invented a new and Improved Vegetable-Cutter; and I doherehy deelarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure l represents a front view of' this invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse section of the same, the line-:v x, g. l, indicating the plane of' section.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts;
This invention relates to a vegetable-cutter composed of a drum, which is geared together with aknife-` carrier, so that the circumferential velocity of the vdrum is different from that of the knives, and, consequently, the vegetables,'on being fed in between the drum and knife-carrier, are exposed to a drawing eut, whereby the operation of cutting is materially facilitated.
The shafts of the drum and knife-carrier have their bearings in avi'rame which forms the support of a hopper, through which the vegetables can be conveniently introduced between the drum and the knives.
In the drawing- The letter A designates a frame, which is made of castfircn or any other suitable material, and which forms the bearings for two shafts, B C, on one of which is mounted the drum D, and 'on the other the knife-carrierhl.
The drum and the knife-carrier are geared together by cog-wheels F G, which are s0 proportioned that the knives and the drum revolve witha differential velocity, the circumferential, velocity of the knives being somewhat greater than that of the drum, so that the vegetables, on being fed in between the knives and the drum, will be exposed to a drawing cut, whereby the operation of cutting is materially facilitated.
It must also be remarked that the handle for driving the mechanism is attached to the large cogwheeloil the drum, said cog-wheel being `three times, more or less, as large as the cog-wheel of the knifecarrier, so that one revolution of the drum produces three, more or less, revolutions of the knives, and thereby the effect of my machine is materially increased.
Thevegetables to be eut are fed in through a hopper, H, supported by the frame A, and said frame is provided with a clamping-screw, I, so that it can be conveniently secured to a table or bench.
My vegetable-cutter is intended particularly for slicing beans, but it may also be used for slicing other vegetables, and if desired, it may be used for slicing bacon, or other animal substances.V
1n slicing beans, the quickness with which my cutter operates is readily perceived.
bean, my cutter is enabled to slice three beans for each .revolution of the 'drum D, and it will consequently produce three times as much work as it would if the power should be applied directly to the knife-carrier. Y
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The cog-wheels F. G, in combination with thedrnm D and knife-carrier E, constructed and operating suhstantiall y as herein shown and described. v HENRY SEIB.
