specification of Letters, ramt.
Patented Jan. 13, 1914.
Application illed January 30, 191-1. Serial No. 605,494.
vices or Albums, of which the following is aA specification.
This invention relates to albums.
My improved filing device or ,album is tiling devices or especially designed by .me for the tiling of film negatives, although it is adapted 'f or use. in filing any light sheet like articlesi c The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide an improved tiling device or album in which'the receptacles are formed of thin paper'which can be readily opened for the insertion ofthe tilms or like articles. Second, to provide an improved filing album of the class described which is very simple and economical .in structure and, at the same time, satisfactory for the purposes intended.v
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means descrlbed in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structurefwhich is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this invention, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of my improved albums or tiling devices with the cover thrown back, negatives or films being indicated in a couple of the receptacles.A Fig. 2 is a perspective View of my improved filing album closed. Fi 3 is a detall perspective view of one o the receptacles, a film 6 being shown therein. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail section taken on a line corresponding to line 4 4 of Fig. 2, showing structural details.
In the drawings, similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the sev-Y eral views.
Referrin Ato the drawings ll provide a plurality o receptacles or ho ders 1, winch are formed of thin and preferably tra arent paper. Yl`hese, receptacles are forme of pieces of paper folded longitudinally wlth the edges overlapped at the center of the top and glued together to form a seam 2, ex-
tending longitudinally of the receptacle. A notch 3 is cut in the top of each receptacle, the notch being V-shaped and extending across, or substantially across the top of the envelop, the bottom of the notch being in the l seam or overlapped portions ot the top. l thus secure a receptacle which is varyeaslly opened. The seam formed by the overlapped edges stilens the receptacles longitudinally at the center and further the bottom of the notch beingin this seamthe receptacles are 1 articlesI rhie mner ends of the receptacles are closed by means'of the binding strips 4 so that the paper is not likely to tear out at the rivets. These bindinggsltlrips 4 also-serve as fillers to properly space Yt A"ereceptacles, so that they are not distorted bv the films or 'sheets placed therein. After the receptacles are thus secured together, they 'are preferably provided with a bindlng consisting of a back 7 having binding portionsV 8 on its edges, the back and binding stripsbeing secured by gluing, as is common practice in book binding.. The covers 9 and' 10 respectively, are hinged to these binding stri s.- The bottom cover 9 is preferably provi ed with a closing flap 11, which has a suitable fastening device of the snap button form.
My improved filing album is very sim le and economical in structure, the receptac es being easily produced, and the binding being simple. The structure is, at the same time, very durable.v By forming the receptacles as I have described, they may be readily opened for the insertion of the contents, and as the bottom of the seeming notch is in the seam, the rece tacles are not likely to be torn, even thoug made of thin material.
not likely to be torn in opening and insertH This seam, being in this position, stiiens the envelop, so that it facilitates the opening of 1. A file comprising a plurality of filing receptacles open at their outer ends and having centrally disposed stiened portions exwith the bottoms of the V in the stiffened portions, the outer ends of their backs being straight; binding strips arranged in the inner ends of said receptacles, and binding rivets arranged through said receptacles and binding strips whereby said receptacles are 'bound together and their inner ends closed,
the said stitfened portions of said receptacle being clamped by said binding strips; and covers secured to the inner ends of said receptacles so bound together.
2. A file comprising a plurality of tiling receptacles open at their outer ends and having centrally disposed stiifened portions extending longitudinally of their fronts, said receptacles being formed of thin material folded longitudinally with the edges overlapped and glued together to provide said stitfened portions; binding strips arranged in the inner ends of said receptacles, and binding rivets arranged through said receptacles and binding stripswhereby said receptacles are bound together and their inner ends closed, the said stii'ened portions of said receptacle being clamped by said binding strips; and covers secured to the inner ends of said receptacles so bound together.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two Witnesses.
