UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED T. WRIGHT, OF WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VERMONT.
BOX.
VVindsor and State of Vermont, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following'is a specifi cation.
The present invention relates to certain novel and useful lmprovements in folding boxes.
In carrying out my invention, it is my' purpose to provide a one-piece folding box adapted especially for use in'shipping and transporting articles.
In the present instance, I have shown and described a box composed of a blank formed of alternating layers of cardboard or similar material, such box being constructed of two outside layers or boards and an intermediate layer of fabric. I wish it to be understood, however, that I do not limit myself to such specific construction, as there maybe modification and variation as to the manner and material employed and the manner of its use, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
By so constructing my box, it will be found especially useful by mail order houses and persons'dealing with the same, inas-- much, as the address of the customer may be marked upon the outer face thereof and after reaching such customer, the blank-may be reversed and the box refolded so that the inner face becolnes the outer face and the name of the manufacturing house orestablishment marked on it and the box used as a return box.
Another object of.my invention is to provide a foldable shipping box which will embody in its'construction the desired features of simplicity, cheapness and convenience.
I wish it to be 'furtherunderstood that I may provide said box with a fastening button or the like extending through one of 'the walls therein and a tape or cord which may be connected to said button so that the single tape or cord may be used to bind or tie the box either in its original or reversed condition.
With the above-recited objects, and others of asimilar nature in View, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, set forth in and falling within the scopeof the appended claim.
In the drawings :'Figure 1 is a view of Specification of Letters Patent.

the blank out ready to be folded in the form of the box embodying my invention. Fig.
- 2 is a view in side elevation of my improved box, showing the same folded. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View, taken through the same. Fig. at is a transverse vertical sectional view.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the letter A indicates the blank as an entirety, said blank being preferably formed of the outside layers of card board 1l, such as are commonly employed for making boxes, and the intermediate layer of cloth or fabric 2. In the form of box shown in the accompanying drawings, the blank is'scored with transverse parallel lines 3 and the vertical scorings 4, these being suitably arranged so that when folded along the vertical and transverse lines, the box is formed with the top- 5, the sides 6, the inside bottom leaf 7, the outside bottom leaf 8, the end tabs 9, the outside end leaves 10, and the tongues 11 at the ends of the leaves 10. In the folding of the box, the top 5 is formed at the center thereof and is adapted to be printed on both of its faces with any suitable matter, such as the address of the shipper on one side and the address of the customer on the other side. In folding the box, the sides 66 are bent. upward vertically. the end tabs 9 then folded inward, the inside leaf 7 then folded down in parallelism with the top portion 5, the end leaves then folded against the tabs and the tongues are then bent inward and inserted beneath the top of the box and the adjacent edges of the end tabs. By so folding the box the desired address will be exposed upon the outer face or top. The bottom of the box is provided with a doubleheaded button 12, fastened by means of an eyelet. 13, a head of the button appearing at each side of the top, while through said eyelet reeved a cord or other fastening means 14. After the box has been folded, the cord may be wrapped about the same and tied or wound about the button. To use the box a second time, it is unfolded and then refolded in the reverse direction above described so that the face which in the first instance formed the inside of the top will be exposed as the outside upon the refolding It will, of course, be understood that the box may be made of any form, shape or size, or folded in any desired manner,'the
principal purpose of my invention being to piped sides, and juxtaposed buttons con nected to one side at the center thereof at 10 the opposite surfaces thereof and a flexible member s'lidably mounted through the centers of the buttons and having its end enlarged whereby its sliding movement through the buttons is limited.
- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 15 in presence of two witnesses.
