T 0 all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, THEODORE V. VIL- LiAMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairview, in the county of Buncombe and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in TicketCutters, of which the fol lowing is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in ticket cutters.

The invention is designed for the purpose of cutting tickets such as illustrated in Figure 8 of the drawings, to indicate the desired station.

An object of this invention is the provision of a ticket cutter which will sever the ticket in two parts at any desired point thereof.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a device such as described, which will not only sever a ticket in the manner desired, but which will also stamp the dates on each of the parts thereof.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a ticket cutter which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and eflicient in use, and readily operated.

With the above and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, .in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my invention with parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a similar view on the line 44, of Fig. 1. Figs. 5, 6 and 7, are detail views of the cutting plate, knife blade, and standard, respectively. Fig. 8 is a plan view of a ticket.

Referring to the accompanying drawings by similar characters of reference, the numeral 10 designates generally my improved ticket cutter which consists of a base plate 11, to the opposite longitudinal edges of which are secured the side plates 12. A bed plate 13 is attached to the upper edges of the side plates 12, and is formed with a longitudinally extending slot 14, the intermediate portion of which is curved inwardly to produce a V-shaped central por- Specifieation of Letters Patent.

I tion 15. A cutting plate 16 is secured to the i upper side of the bed plate 13 and has its inner side out to conform to the shape of the previously described groove 14. A standard 16 projects from the upper side of the base plate 11 and has pivoted thereto the intermediate portions of a rocker arm 17, the outer end of which is normally held in its raised position by the spring 18. A lug 19 projects from the upper side of the rocker arm 17 adjacent its outer end and has pivotally attached thereto a link 19' which is in turn pivoted at its upper end to the operating arm 20. This arm 20 is pivoted, as at 21, to the opposite end of the bed plate 13. The arm 17 is held against any undesired lateral movement by the spaced guides 22 which connect the base plate 11 and bed plate 13. A knife bar 23 is disposed between the side plates 12 and has formed upon its lower side a depending lug 24 which is pivotally connected by a rod to the inner end of the rocker arm 17. This rod 25 extends beyond the oppo site sides of the lug 24 and has mounted thereon a pair of vertically disposed stamp holding bars 26, which have their upper ends disposed in the guide apertures 27 formed upon either side of the guiding plate 16. The upper ends of these stamp holders 26 are formed for engagement with the stamper, for a purpose to be later disclosed.

A knife blade 29 is secured to the upper side of the knife holder 23 and is bent in substantially the same formation as the groove 14, and is arranged to cooperate with the cutting plate 16 to sever the ticket 30. A connecting bar 31 is attached to the intermediate portion of the operating arm 20 and extends above the inner guide aperture 27, at which point it has a depending presser foot 32 adapted upon the operation of the arm 20 to force the ticket into engagement with the bed plate 13 around the adjacent aperture 27, thus holding it against movement while the ticket is being stamped. A similar presser foot 33 is secured to the operating arm 20 for similar cooperation with the aperture 27 upon the opposite side of the cutting plate.

The operation of the device is as follows: The ticket is first inserted in its proper position between the bed plate 13 and the operating arm 20, and the hand grip 34 of the operating arm is depressed which, through the previously described operating mechaeach of the sections of the ticket.

From the foregoing disclosures, it will be manifest that a ticket cutter is provided which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such an apparatus.

It should be understood in this connection that various minor changes in the specific details of construction can be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from or sacrificing any advantages of the invention.

Having thus fully described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure bytLetters Patent is 1. In a ticket cutter, the combination with a slotted bed plate, a cutting plate secured to the bed plate, and having one edge thereof flush with the slot, a lever pivoted upon the bed plate to engage said cutting plate, a rocker arm pivoted beneath the bed plate, an operative connection between the lever and rocker arm, a knife plate carried by the rocker arm, a knife attached to said knife plate and operating within the slot in said bed plate, and stamping means operated by the lever, as and for the purpose described.

In a ticket cutter, the combination with a bed plate, said bed plate having a slot formed therein and a guide aperture formed therein on each side of said slot, a lever pivoted upon the bed plate, presser feet carried by the lever above said apertures, a rocker arm pivoted beneath the bed plate, an operative connection between the lever and rocker arm, a knife connected to said rocker arm and operating within the slot formed in said bed plate, and stampers connected to said rocker arm and disposed within the guide apertures, as and for the purpose described.

In a ticket cutter, the combination with a bed plate, said bed plate having a slot therein and a guide aperture on each side of said slot, a lever pivoted upon the bed plate, presser feet carried by said lever above said guide apertures, a rocker arm pivoted beneath the bed plate, an operative connection between the lever and the rocker arm, a rod connected to said rocker arm and projecting beyond the opposite sides thereof, stamping bars mounted upon the opposite ends of said rod and disposed within said guide apertures, a knife operating within the slot formed in said bed plate, as and for the purpose described. 7

In a ticket cutter, the combination with a bed plate, said bed plate being formed. with a slot therein, the intermediate portion of the slot being bent in V-shaped forma tion, a cutting plate secured to the bed plate and having one edge thereof fiush with the slot, a lever pivoted upon the bed plate, a rocker arm pivoted beneath the bed plate, an operative connection between the lever and rocker arm, a knife plate carried by the THEODORE V.
