Specification of Letters Patent. 2
Patented Jan. 1914-.
Application filed 'fiebruaryw, 1912. Serial No. 679,253. 7
. Grass Valley, in the county of Nevada and which is mounted a gearcase 7, in which is crank 9 whereb State of. California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dish-Washing Machines, of which the following isa .pecification.
This invention relates to dish washing apparatus: I
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, substantial, easily operated machine for the washing of dishes, etc. The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanyin drawings, in which-,
igure 1 is a vertical transverse section through the machine. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the machine.
In the illustrated embodiment of the invention 2 is a suitably shaped tank, shown as cylindrical inform and of suitable depth, having attached to its bottom a substantial support or spider 3, the projecting ends of which may be perforated, as at 1, to receive screws or other devices 5 by which the tank may be connected to a board, table or other support.
one side of the tank 2 is formed a rectangular chamber 6 on the rear side of journaled a gear shaft 8 bearing a gear 9, which in turn meshes with and drives a pinion 10 mounted on a transverse shaft 11, on the outer. end of which may be mounted, if desired, a pulley or driving wheel, not shown, whereby the apparatus may be operated by mechanical power.
On the end? of the shaft 8 is secured a the machine may be op: erated manuall The shaft 11 projects into the rectangular chamber 6 and. is provided with a packing gland 12 to prevent the leaking of water from the tank 2 when this is being used. On the inner end of the shaft 11 is a pinion 13 meshing with an annular crown gear 14. which is attached to upright arms 15 of a. spider or frame 16 rotatable about a central stud 17 in the bottom of the cylinder 2. A wing screw 18 may be screwed into the bearing 17 about which the upright arms 15 may revolve.
Dishes to be washed are placed in position in a perforated or open screen basket 20 of suitable depth and diameter to fit within the tank 2 and rest on the frame 16 and within the annular crown gear 14 which is revolved by the pinion 13 when the gearing 9-11 is operated.
One of the peculiar and special features of the present invention is the means whereby the water and soapy substance, which may be inserted in the water, can be forcedwith great pressure and washing e-fiect against the dishes, this neans comprising i in the present instance a propeller wheel 21 which may be secured on the shaft 11 to rotate in the cylinder tl and force the cleaning water, which is fed into the tank throu h basket carrying the plates contained therein successively arund causes the current of water produced by the revolving propeller 21 to thoroughly cleanse the dishes.
After the dishes have been. washed, or
during the operation, the'sediment and unclean water mav be drawn from the tank 2,
through a drain connection or pipe 23 located at one side and near the-bottom of :the tank 2. A lid or cover 24 is provided and fittable.
over the upper open end of the tank'2, so as to keep the steam within the tank, to
maintain the water at as high a temperature as desired during the washing operation:
The'baslret 20, in which the dishes may be placed, may be filled with dishes before it is arranged in the tank 2, and after the dishes have been thoroughly washed by the impingem ent of water thrown by the propeller 21, the basket with the dishes may then be lifted out and the dishes allowed to drain and rinsed with fresh water, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters a closed" bottom with
