UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD PossoN, OFCHIC'AGO, LLINoIs.
l' ANGLE-COCK' HOLDER.
i i To all 'ze/tom 'it may concern:
, Beiit known that I, linwano PossoN, a
citizen ol the United States, residno at Chicago, .in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have inventcdcertain new and useful Improvements in Angle-Cock Hol-ders: and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains t0 make and use the same.
` My invention has for its object to provide a simple and efficient angle coekholder for holding the angle cock on the train pipe of a ear in proper position and alwaysat the proper angle.
Generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of dcvices hereinafter desc-ribedand defined .in the claims.
ln the accompanying drawings which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several'views.
Referringto the drawings: Figure 1 is a view showing a box car in end elevation and showing my improved angle cock holder applied thereto; Fie'. 2 is a side elevation showin;r a part ot the car body, the angle cock holder, train pipe and angle cock in side elevation; Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line :1:3 af on Fig; land Fig. 'L is a 'front elevation of the angle cock holder with the angle cock and train pipe removed.
'lhe numeral l indicates the car body.
'- r1 be numeral 2 the train pipe and lthe n nmeral 2 the angle cock which is ."erewed onto the end of the said tra-in pipe. This angle cock 3 has the usual nut-equipped end -l-snrromuling the end of the train pipe onto which it is screwed.' A lock collar or sleeve made up of a U-shaped body 5 and heads 6, is slipped onto the end of the train pipe 2 before the angle' cock is screwed onto the `saidpipe. 'lhe'l'ront or outer head (3 is` as shown, made hexagonal to correspond to the nut surface il ot the angle cock, and it is provided with several, as shown, with three laterally projecting lock llang'es 7 that eng-age with the nut surfaces -t of the said angie cock, to tlufreby positively lock the said angle cock and collar against rotation, the one in. respect lo the other. 'lhis collar is supported l'rom the car l-ody by a hanger bracket and coperaling clampingr cap or bar t) .secured thereto by nut-equipped bolts l0. The hanger bracket 8 is formed with a Speeieationof Letters Patent. Application 1aed september 2o, 191'3.
Patented J am-6., 1914. -Serial Np. 790,336.
-lateral bulge 8, and in line-with the upper and lower extremities thereof, the clamping .bar 9 is formed with notches 9, and between sa-id --notches with "a segmental concave clamping lug 9h; When the collar is applied 'in the lhanger bracket, the heads' 6 thereof will be located, one' inward and one outward of said bracket, and the extremities of its U-shaped body 5 will project. into the notches 9 of theclamping` bar 9, while the clamping lng 9b will extend into the said U-shaped portion and into engagement with the train pipe, so thatthe train pipe will be firmly clamped between the said lug and the said U-shapcd body portion. The collar is thus, when the bolts 10 are tightened, held against rotation as well as against endwise displacement. To further insure this action against rotation, the U-shaped bodyportion 5 of the collar is shown as provided with heal-imgr .lugs 5 that fit within the bulged portion 9b of the hanger bracket.
Of course, thelanges 7 on the front head of the pipe supporting collar must be s0 lmfated, in res ect to the projecting flanges of the U-shapeg body 5, as to cause the angle cock to be set in its proper or desired position, which is -assun.ed to be thirty degrees to a vertical. Obviously, when thel train pipe and angle cock are-held, as above just described, and. as shown in the drawngs,.
there is no possibility of either angle cock or the train' pi-pe being rotated., Hence, the angle cock will always be at the right angle lor use and 'cannot possibly work itself loose from the train pipe, but nevertheless, when desired, it is an easy matter to remove the clamping bar 9, and then to slip. the lock dollar back on the train pipe, so that the angle cock maybe screwed ofi' from the train pipe.
That I claim is: i 1. An angle cock holder comprising a supporting bracket and n lock sleeve held therein, said bracket having a clampingr bar for securing said collar thereto, and said collar ha ving" llanges engageable with the nut end ot the angle cock to hold the saine against rotation. y
L. The combination with a hanger bracket having a clamping bar provided With a clamping lug, cfa lock sleeve having a U- shaped body and flanged heads, Said U- .shaped body being;r held in said bracket with its open side opposite to said clamping lug, and one of theilanged heads of said lock collar having flanges for interlocking engagement with the nut end of an angle cock appliedto a train pipe when said train pipe is passed through said lock collar. 3; The combination with a hanger bracket i having a clamping bar and bolts adjustably `connecting the same thereto, said bracket j having a bulged intermediate portion kand 'said clamping bar having a clamping lug 'opposite thereto, of a lock sleeve having one of the flanged heads of said lock 1':
sleeve having lock flanges adapted to engage the'nut end of an angle cock, applied lto the end of a train pipe which has been passed through said collar and is clamped between the U-shaped body thereof and the opposing 2( clamping lug of said clamping bar.
In testimony. whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
