To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK RICHARD SIMMS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Welbeck Works, Kimberley Road, Willesden Lane, Middlesex, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Electric Ignition Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to electric ignition apparatus ofthe kind in which a magnetoelectric machine having an armature in the form of an induction coil and provided with a circuit breaker, has combined with it in external source of current, a trembler coil and controlling switch, the'latter being so arranged that the induction coil can be: brought under the influence of either the.
magnetic field of the magneto or of the cur rent from the external source for ignition purposes, or cut off from both.
According to my invention I provide an auxiliary circuit breaker for use when the external current source is used for ignition, the said auxiliary circuit breaker being arranged so that the circuit through the said external source is open when the main circuit breaker is closed, thus avoiding short circuiting the primary winding of the induction coil. In a suitable arrangement for carrying out the invention this auxiliary circuit breaker 1s arranged between the said external current source and primary winding and in the case where the main circuit breaker isin the form of a rotating arm carrying a brush designed to make and break contact with one fixed contact piece, or a series thereof, in circuit w1th the said prlmary wlnding, 1t embodies accompanying drawing, in which:-

By the described arrangement of auxil-' iary contact breaker it will be evident that when the switch is in position for effecting the said a-ttery will 'be' maintained open when the main circuit breaker 2', "h, g is closed, thus. avoiding short circ'uiting the lace if the two circuit breakers were both cibsed. at the same time. It will also be evident that the ignition effected bythe batteryjc will be slightly later than that by the magneto.
