Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 22, 1912. Serial No. 727,212.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALESSANDRO SALUOCL a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Lawrence, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rivet or Bolt Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to bolt or rivet holders and more particularly to the class of dolly bars.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein channeled or angle bars may be riveted in a novel and convenient manner.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which can be readily and easily manipulated and that will hold the head of the rivet, so that the latter can be securely fastened for connecting channeled or angle bars together.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple in construction, strong, durable, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the invention, the same being in position for holding a rivet for connecting together channeled bars. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the rivet holding element. Fig. 4 1s a perspective view .of the fulcrum arm. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a modified form of rivet holder, showing the same in operative position for riveting apair of angle bars together. Fig. 6 is a top plan VIEW thereof; Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a hook element.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, the device comprises a lever 10 having formed at one end a handle 11, while detachably connected to the opposite end is a rivet holding element 12, the same being provided with a fork 13 receiving the lever 10 and through this fork is passed a pin 14, the same being also passed through the lever 10 for connecting the element 12 thereto. In the outer free end of the element 12 is formed a rivet head receiving socket 15, in which is engaged the head of a rivet 16 after the same has been inserted through the adjacent flanges 17 of a pair of channeled bars 18, whereby the latter can be riveted together.
Adjustably connected to the lever 10 is a fulcrum arm 19, provided with a forked end 20 having alining apertures 21 for adjustably receiving a pin 22, which is adapted to be engaged in the lever 10 for connecting the fulcrum arm 19 thereto, the opposite end of the said arm 19 being formed with diverging tines 23 adapted to engage against the flange adjacent thereto of one of the channeled bars, so that on operating the lever 10 the same will force the element 12 against the rivet, whereby the latter will be driven through the flanges 17, and this rivet is subsequently headed down in the usual way.
In Figs. 5 and 6 there is shown a slight modification of the device wherein the lever 24 has pivotally connected to its inner end the rivet holding element 25 provided with a rivet head seat 26 receiving the head of a rivet 27, which is engaged in the flanges 28 adjacent each other of angle bars 29. Swingingly connected to the lever 24 is a hook member 30, the same being pivoted at 31 to the said lever 24 and is formed with diverging hook arms 32 formed with chiseled edged ends 33, whereby the same may bite into the flange 28 ,adapted to be engaged by the hook member 30, so that on operating the lever 24, the rivet 26 will be driven home and subsequently headed down in the usual manner. Suitably fixed to the lever 24 is a leaf spring 34, the free end of which works against the hook member 30, and is designed to serve in holding the ends 33 in positive engagement with the flange of one of the angle bars when the lever 24 is being manipulated for pressing the element 25 against the rivet 26 engaged in the flanges of the angle bars during the riveting process for connecting the said bars together.

What is claimed is A device of the class described comprising an operating lever, a fulcrum member having a bifurcation receiving the said lever, a
pivot passed transversely through the bifurcated portion of the fulcrum member and the lever for adjustably connecting the same together, downwardly and upwardly curved independent fulcrum tongues formed on the said member at the end opposite the bifurcation therein, and a rivet holding element pivotally connected to the lever spaced from the point of pivotal connection of the fulcrum member therewith.
