- ments in curry-combs, the primary object of the invention being the provision of a pneumatic or suction device adapted to have connected detachably thereto a curry-comb which forms a sealing means for the vacuum chamber of the device and is provided with a plurality of apertures therethrough leading into the vacuum chamber, whereby the hair and dust and dirt loosened from the skin of the animal will be drawn through the said apertures into the vacuum chamber of the device and finally to any desired receptacle. i

A further object of the present invention is the provision of a novel form of easing which has removably mounted therein a curry-comb provided with apertures therethrough to provide inlet nozzles for the air into the vacuum casing, the latter forming in reality the back of the comb and being provided with means for readily applying the device as is the usual custom in combing.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings-Figure 1 is a view illustrating the use of the comb, the same being shown operably connected to an electrically operated suction creating device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through the comb, said .section being taken on the line XX Fig. 4.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates an electrically operated suction creating engine, the same, however, being indicative of any form of suction mechanism, either operated by power or by hand if so desired.

Leading from the suctionengine is the usual flexible hose 2 which is removably at tached to the couplingend 3 .of the inlet nozzle of the casing 4, which forms the back or gripping portion of the curry-comb as will presently appear.

In order properly to manipulate the device a hand strap 5 is connected to the easing 4 while a strap 6 is placed upon the forearm of the operator and is formed with a loop 6 fastened upon the suction hose 2, the connection at 6 and the hand strap 5 keeping any undue strain from the connection of the hose to the coupling end of the nozzle 3. By this means a free action is permitted in the movement of the comb over the hide of the animal.

As clearly shown in' Fig. 2, the casing 4, is provided with a domed top 7 and a downwardly projecting rim .8, which has mounted upon the inner side thereof and also connected to the under side of the dome 7 the short rim 9 provided with an end plate 10 which thus provides an abutting means for removable curry-comb plate 16 so that when the plate is placed in position for use a vacuum or suction chamber llis provided between the under side of the dome 7 of the casing 4 and the opposed face of the curry-comb plate 16.

The inner end 15 of the suction nozzle 3 is flared and terminates at a point slightly beyond the center of the dome 7, thus causing the air to be drawn through the orifices 18, respectively, of the curry-comb plate 16, and finally through the enlarged mouth 15 into the reduced portion 3 and thence through the suction hose 2 to the desired place of deposit.

The curry-comb consists of the plate 16, which is provided with a peripheral rim 17 whose lower edge is provided with the usual teeth or serrations, the body of the plate 16 being further provided with air nlet apertures 18-which provide a means of communication between the chamber formed between the rim 17 and the hide of the animal and the vacuum chamber 11 of the casing 4.

In order to provide further means for combing, two U-shaped currying strips'or plates 19 and 19 are secured to and carried by the plate 16 within the outer flange or rim 17, and are provided withtheir serrations on teeth upon the lower edges, while disposed longitudinally of the plate 16 as shown in Fig. 4, is a curry-comb plate or strip 21 which is provided upon its outer edge with the usual teeth or serrations.-

From the foregoin description, taken in connection with the rawings it is evident that a curry-comb constructed according to the present invention provides a means whereby the dust and dirt which usually is freed and commingles with the atmosphere, is drawn through the body of the currycomb into the vacuum chamber with the hair, and is deposited or collected in any well known manner through the medium of any form of suction creatin device. By this means the dust and dirt loosened from the hide of the animal is removed in a sanitary and thorough manner.

What is claimed is:

A curry comb comprising a hollow body having a rim formin an open-ended receptacle, a wall paralleling the rim within the same and terminatin in a shouldered portion, a nozzle of attened frusto-conical shape disposed within the body, a late removably sealing the open end oft e body and having a plurality of apertures therethrough, a rim, havin a serrated edge, carried by the plate and orming an open-ended air-confining chamber below. the plate, a strip secured centrally and longitudinally upon the under side of the plate and provided with a plurality of teeth upon its edge and two curved strips provided with teeth upon their lower edges and secured to the plate and paralleling the adjacent end of the rim thereof, the central stri dividing the chamber longitudinally and iiaving its ends terminating in spaced relation to the curved strips to provide circulating passages at the center thereof.
