i To all whom it concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen Ferrous, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Canevolved during the combustion of coal may be consumed, thereby utilizing a maximum percentage of the heat units and economizing in the consumption of fuel.
The invention provides a novel form of sprayer for delivering air in regulated quantity to the combustion chamber, said sprayer embodying independent passages, the one for air and the other for steam, the air passage having regulable air inlets whereby the amount of air to be supplied in a given time may be controlled, said air being heated in its passage to-prevent injury to the furnace or boiler which would be liable to occur by the delirery of cold air into the fur nace.
The invention consists of the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts, which hereinafter will be more particularly set forth, companying drawing, appended claims.
Referring to the drawing, forming a part of the specification, Figure 1 is a sectional view, showing the'application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on'the line w.z' of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on the line glz of Fig. 1.

The invention comprises a body 1 in which v is formed a chamber 2, a passage? and a recess 4, thelatter opening through a side of the body and having an opening 5 at its inner end leading into the chamber 2. @One end of the body 1 has a. flange 6. by means of-which the body is secured to a vall or other part of the furnace. By backing or unscrewing the cap 9 the air openings 11 may be uncovered more or less to regulate the quantity of air to. be supplied to the furnace in a given time according to existing conditions to insure a perfect combustion of the smoke and gases. The edge of the cap 9 is notched and is engaged by means of a spring 12, which holds the cap in the adjusted position. One end of the spring 12' is secured to the body 1 and its opposite end projects to be engaged by the hand so as torelease the cap when it is required to turn the same to regulate the effective size of the air inlets. A pipe 14 is secured at one end within the opening 5 and extends through the opening 13 and is-provided at its other end with a spray nozzle 15 for delivering the steam e openings 5 and 13 into the combustion chamber of the'furnace in minute jets. A pipe 16 is secured at one end within the opening 13 and incloses the pipe 14: and is provided atits opposite end with a fiarednozzle 17, which incloses the spray nozzle 15. The flared nozzle 17 is set into the wall 18 of the furnace and projects some distance beyond the spray nozzle 15.
The manner of construction and attaching the flared nozzle 17 to the furnace wall 18 is unimportant within thepurview of the invention. 4

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shownis merely illustrative, and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
