Since the spring 18 not only acts to hold the shaft in the normal position, but is used to move the shaft from either direction back to normal position after having; been displaced by the lever 17, it will readily be understood that when the lever is released 'and the shaft and associated parts returned to normal position under the action ot the spring 18, there will vbe some tendency for the shaft to overthrow or go beyond vthe normal position. To prevent this overthrow, when the shaft is returning to normal position under the action ol either end ot the spring- 18, the lever 17 is not secured directly to shaft 8, but is pivotally secured at to an arm 26 extending from the hub 23, which as previously indicated, is secured to the end of the shaft 8. 'lhe lever 17.l` is provided with an enlarged 90 or elongated hole 27 through which a pin 28,
projecting from the outer end of the arm QG, extends. r1`his pinand slot connection between the lever 17 and the hub 23 permits ot a limited amount of lost motion of the 95 lever in either direction before it can nieveV` the shaft 8 against the spring 18.
