Description

G. W. HAMMERS. PLOW.
APPLICATION FILED new. 29, 1912.
Patented Dec. 23, 1913.
Attorneys that changes in the preciseembodiment of GEORGE W. HAMMERS, OF BILLINGS, MONTANA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 23, 1-913.
Application filed October 29, 1912. Serial No; 728,478.
held securely and closely in abutment withthe landside.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view Wvhich will appear as the descriptionproceeds, the invention resides in the con 1 bination and arrangement of parts and m the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of What claimed, w1thout departing from the sp-1r1t of the nvention.
- In the drawings :Figure 1 shows the invention in perspective, parts being broken away; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the landside, the view showing the colter applied to and held upon the landside. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the landside and through the colter; and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the colter.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates the landside and the numeral 2 indicates the share.
The numeral 3indicates a colter, the same having an extension 4 adapted to lie along the outer face of the landside 1. The body portion of the colter 3 is equipped with a rearwardlytand inwardly inclined stud 5 adapted to be received in a rearwardly and in ardly inclined opening (3 which is formed at 1t. upon the inner face of the landside 1. The lever 12 is equipped in its inner edge with a plurality ofnotches 16, any one'of which may be engaged with the retaining member 9 when the lever 12 is tilted. In order to effect a tilting of the lever 12, a fulcrum pin 17 is passed through the rear end of the lever, the pin 17 supporting a cam 18 adapted to bear against the inner face of the landside 1, thecam 18 terminating in a rearwardly extending operating handle 19.
In practical operation, the stud 5 is inserted into the opening 6 and when the colter 3 is pushed rearwardly, the same will be advanced transversely, so as to bear closely and securely against the outer face of the landside 1.- The retaining member 9 is mounted in place and the lever 12 is inserted into the opening 11 in the retaining member 9, one of the notches 16 being engaged with the retaining member. When the handle 12) is manipulated, the cam 18 will bear against the inner face of the landside 1 and tilt lever 12 upon its fulcrum point 14. Thus, the retaining member 9 will be advanced longitudinally and the head 10 of the retaining member will engage and hold in place the colter From the foregoing it will be seen that a device has been provided whereby a colter may be attached readily to the landside of a plow and, withequal facility, may be removed therefrom, The construction, further, is such that the colter will lie closely against the outer side of the landside.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. In a plow, a landside having a rearardly and inwardly inclined opening; a colter having a rearwardly and inwardly inclined stud adapted to register in the opening; a retaining member engaged with the colter and with the landside; and adjustable means upon the retaining member for engaging the inner face of the landside.
3. in a pl:,-w, a landside. having a rearwardly and inwardly inclined opening; a colter having rcarw rdiy and inwardly inl hncd stud adapted to register in the opening: a retaining u'icmbcr engaging with the. colter and with the lambide; a bar inserted tl'irough the retailing member; and' adjustable means upon one end of the bar for thrusting the other end of the bar against the no E? "the iandeide, to impertlongitumovmnent to 1e retaining member.-
Now a Zendeide; ejeolter; the n provided with e reel'werdly will; inetined opening, and the 11g provided with e reerwardly and ineii' 2 :1 etne adapted to register neg:
e retaining member eneolter' and wlth the landl'ted through the retelnmg e hmeisiele; and a cam upon the her, zniiopted to engage at the tendelde m; :notohee' animated to member; and e oem the inner few of the lejndeide to Swing the other enct of the he}; a t the lnner face to e mnee the reten'nng of the lends-3] member longitudinally;
5. In a. plow, a lendeide; {L colt-e1 applied to the landslide; e retaining member mounted upon the oolter and extended through the landeide; e kwer pivotafly supported inter- 3 mediate ends on the retaining member and located upon the opposite side of the lendeide from the colter; and adjustable means mounted upon one arm of the lever for :foreingthe other arm of the lever into 35 engagement with the lendside. I
In testimony that I eta im the foregoing as my em I have .tmreto eflix'ed my signeoreeenee of two witi'leesee.
