Be it known that T, MATTHEW C. SHARP- Niion, a citizen of the United States,.resid ingat Cornville, in the county of Yavapai and State of Arizona, have invented new and useful Tmprovements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to safety razors and it is the object of the invention to provide means whereby the blade of the razor may be simply and conveniently shifted laterally across the ard, whereby a shearing cut may be obtained.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, ll represents a substantially semi-cylindrical casing to which is secured an operating or manipulating handle 2 preferably formedfwith a longltudinal channel 3 and which extendsv diagonally from the casing. Mounted within the casing is a frame l upon which is mounted a train of gears 5 includin a sprin drum 6 which drives the same. ncluded 1n the train is a suitable escapement mechanism 7 which controls the speed of movement and projecting from the bottom of the casing is the winding shaft of the spring drum by. which the tension of the spring therein may be increased when desired. This blade is mounted upon the top of the casing and is adapted to reciprocate thereover, being held in operative position by a strap 15 which lies over the blade adjacent -rent .is led into the motor by the circuit wires 21 which pass through the handle 2. The casing in each form is providedl with a door 22 by which the mechanism therein maybe covered andpso that access may be had thereto when repairs are needed or for any other suitable purpose. In the structure shown in Fig. 6 a suitable switch is preferably mounted upon the handle so as to control the current to the motor.
In the operation of the device the guard and razor are pulled over the face at an acute angle thereto and with a straight pull, the motor being turned on so as to reciprocate the blade at the proper speed. This reciprocation of the blade across the teeth formed by the slots in the guard acts in a similar manner to .the ordinary cutter bar on a reaper or mowing machine and as the edge 0f the blade is straight a sawing action is produced which readily severs the whiskers from the face.
