Description

I aaaaam fist-rat mfljiirr.
Letters Patent No. 108,093,- dated October 11, 1870.]
'- IMPROVEMENT. m Po'rA'ro-oleesns.
The Schedule Yeferred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may Coll/06TH.
Be it known that I, Anna L. BAUSMAN, of Minneapolis, in the countyof Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in PotatoDigger s; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawing making a part of .this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon,
Figure 1 of, the drawing is a representation of the method of arranging the prongs of my potato-digger.
Figure 2 is a side view of my invention:
Figure 3 is a perspcct-iveview'of the same.
My invention relates'to means for taking potatoes from the hills,'and' consists, mainly in the construc tion and novel arrangement of the combined fork and riddle described below.
The letter A of the drawing designates the handle of my potato-digger. An iron ring, a, is secured around it, near the fork, and to this ring is pivoted the prop or pendent fulcrum 0, provided with a transverse bar, a, at its lower end, to secure a steady support when the fork is loaded. 7
p D represents a bar of malleable iron, bent into the form of a hook, aud securedinto the end of the han-. die by means of a thimble.
Rods of steel, pointed at both ends, are welded-in the center between the shank and hookof the bar D.
The ends of the rods arebent forward to form the prougs e of the forle p It is evident, from the method of manufircture, that my fork must always have an even'number of prongs, Welded in a similar manner to the end of the bent bar D is the guard or rail-bar 71,-- This guard is also attached to the ends of the two outer prongs of the fork, and serves to prevent the potatoes from falling ofl at-the sides during the shaking operation, I
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The arrangement and combination of the bent wires 6 e, each forming two tines of the potato-diggel, the guard-rail ll, clamp D, and pendent fulcrum '0, having the broad foot a, when constructed to operatesubstantially as shown and described. I In testimony that I claim the above I have here,
unto subscribed my name in the presence of two wi't-' nesses.
ABNER L. BAUSMAN.
