Description

' To all-whom it may concern.:
`the gear-wheel fand pinion f.
am erwartet @are "HENRYWAHLEILIIENRY METZ, AND LUDWIG IIEINZLE, 4orfrlntnroIn,` i l ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 18,070, dated October 4, .1870.
` IMPRGVEMVENT .IN SAUSAGEQSTUFFERS.
Theschedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known `that we, HENRY WAuLnu, HENRY `METZ, and LUDWIGr HEINZLE, all of Freeport, in the county ot' Stephenson and `State of Illinois, have invented a new and-useful Improven'ientv in Sausage- Stuffers; and we do hereby declare that the following is a` fullaud exact vdescription of the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference ymarked thereon.
This invention relates to that class of' sausagestnffers .which has a piston working in a cylinder actuated by means .of a rack-bar and gearing, ,and consists, mainlyin the construction and arrangement of the rack-bar and gearing.
In the drawing?- 'Figure 1 represen-ts a central sectionalcleration,
Figure Ik2, a plan view oi' our improved sausagestuil'er.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will now proceed to describe fully l its construdtion and manner of `operation.
A represents a box or table, which constitutes the base of'theff machine. y B represents a bed-plate, securely vattached to the l top of table A in any suitable manner, which is pro- I vided with projections, b b, `as shown.
.C represents the reservoiror cylinder, open at both ends, and provided with fianges, c c, having suitable l screw-holes, by means ot' which itis rigidlysecurcd `to thebed-plate between .the projections b b.
' `At the lower end of the cylinder, upon its front side, l is located an orifice and grooved flanges, c'o, in which latter slides theplate d of the inclined tube d.
E E represent supports, which, rising from the bedplate at right angles thereto, support the gearing.
YF represents the main shaft, upon which is located G represents a shaft, located above the shaft F, which is provided with a pinion, rg, and crank, g.
The pinion j" gears witlrthe rack-har II, which slides in suitable bearings attached to the cylinder.
'Ihe upper endoithe rack-bar is carried forward over the cylinder, and has attached to it the pistou- `rod I. Y
The operation will he readily understood. rlhe cylinder is irst filled with properly-prepared sausagemeat, and the casing ris slipped over the tube. The piston is now placed in the cylinder, and depressed by moving the crank in the proper direction. As the piston descends, the meat 'is forced out ofthe tube into the easing. v
The arrangement of the parts described is such that the cylinder, piston, and tube may he easily sepy table, bed-plate, cylinder,'tuhe, gearing, rack-Dampieton-rod, and piston, when thcparts are arranged as described, for the purpose set forth.
rIhis specification signed and witnessed this 20th day ot' August, 1870.
