To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK S. CULVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spinning-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in spinning machines, and pertains more particularly to the builder motions thereof.
The present invention is an improvement on my Letters Patent No. 1008702, issued November 14, 1911, and the object thereof is to provide improved and novel connections between the rockers and the lifter rods that support the thread guide rail for operating the rods in unison.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmental side elevation, part-1y in section of the improved machine. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary I side elevation, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of one of the couplings, the rod being shown in section.
The frame 1 of the machine is provided with the usual ring rail 2, bobbins 3 and drawing rolls 4, from which latter the threads are led through the pig-tails 5 on the guide rail 6 to the bobbins. To the frame 1 is secured a guide frame 7, which is provided with two bearings 8 and 9 carried in spaced relation on the guide 7 the lifter rod 10 being mounted for vertical reciprocation in said bearings 8 and 9 and at its upper end is connected to the thread guide rail 6. It will be understood of course that there are a number of these guide frames and lifter rods in the machine, the number depending upon the length of the machine, the thread guide rail extending throughout the entire length of the machine and being secured to each of the lifter rods. The guide frames are hollowed out at 11 and bifurcated as indicated at 12, a pulley 13 being journaled in one of the furcations. The lifter rod 10 is provided with a coupling 14 which is perforated to receive the rod and is secured thereto by a set screw 15. The cou pling 14 is bifurcated at 16 and has a cotter pin secured transversely to its furcations, one end of a chain 18 being received in the space between the furcations of coupling 14 and engaged with the cotter pin 17 A horizontal reciprocal rod 19 has a coupling 20 secured thereto and depending therefrom,
the coupling 20 being identical with the coupling 14 in structure and having the opposite end of chain 18 secured thereto. The chain 18 as depicted in Fig. 2 of the drawing passes over pulley 13. The rod 19 is mounted in the hollowed out portion of the guide frame 7 and has one end thereof provided with a depending coupling 21, the coupling 21 being connected by a chain 22 with one arm of a bell crank lever 23, the latter being pivoted to a bracket 24 which extends downwardly from frame 1. Suitable weights 25 are attached to the outer end of the bell crank lever to assist in the counterbalancing of same. A perpendicular rod 26 is connected to the bell crank lever 23, and in turn is connected to an arm 27 act-uated from the builder motion rocker 28. Since the bearings 8 and 9 aline with the space between the furcations of the guide frame 7, it will be seen that in the upward movement of the lifter rod 10 the bifurcated end of the coupling 14 will be received in said space.
In operation the builder motion rocker will impart reciprocating movement to the rod 26 and the latter in turn will actuate the bell crank lever 23, and by means of the chain 22 and coupling 21, impart reciprocating movement to the horizontal rod 19, and the rod 19 by reason of its chain connection with the lifter rod will, vertically reciprocate the latter, and therewith the thread guide rail, effecting movement of the pig tails toward and away from the bobbin tops.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a spinning machine, in combination with the thread guide rail, a guide frame connected to the frame of the machine and having a hollowed-out part the lower end of which is bifurcated, a pulley journaled in one of the furcations of said guide frame, a pair of spaced bearings carried by the guide frame and arranged in alinement with the space between the furcat-ions, a lifter rod vertically slidable in said bearings and having its upper end connected to the thread guide rail, a coupling on the rod arranged between the bearings of the guide frame and being receivable in the space between said furcations, a horizontal reciprocal rod mounted in the hollowed out part of the guide frame and having a coupling depending therefrom, a chain connected to said coupling passing over the pulley and connected to the coupling of the lifter rod, a coupling on one end of said horizontal rod, a bell crank lever pivoted to the frame of the machine, a chain connected to said bell crank lever and to the last named coupling of the horizontal rod, and means to operate the bell crank lever from the builder motion rocker.
2. In combination With the thread guide rail and a lifter rod depending therefrom, a guide frame having means to slidingly support the lifter rod, a pulley carried by the guide frame, a horizontal reciprocal rod, a chain connected to said horizontal rod passing over the pulley and connected to the lifter rod, a bell crank lever, a flexible conneotion between the bell crank lever and one end of the horizontal rod, and means for operating the bell crank from the builder motion rocker.
3. In combination with the thread guide rail and a lifter rod depending therefrom, means to slidingly support the lifter rod, a horizontal rod, means to connect the lifter rod to the horizontal rod, a bell crank lever disposed adjacent to one end of the horizon tal rod, a connection between said horizontal rod and the bell crank lever, and a connection between the bell crank lever and the builder motion rocker.
