MOP-WRINGER.
Application filed November 22, 1811.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
To oil" min/a it may concern Be it known that we, JAMES H. TAYLOR and Jr'ues B. TAYLOR, citizens of the li itrd States, residing at Toledo, in the (Minty oi linens and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Vt'ringers; and we do declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact tithfilil'ltltfll 11 the invention, such as will enahie others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, refer once being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this spet'ifieation.
()ur in vention relates to that (-lass o'l' mopringers in which a pail has mounted in its open upper end a wringer-roll opposed i another wringenroil iournaled in guides or Ways and movable into and out of operative position by means of a foot-lever, and designed to furnish a ronstrlu-tiou which shall be cheap, simple, strong and durable.
Our invention is also designed to provide roll-supports which will permit the rolls t readily aeronunodate tln-mselves to irregularities in the mop.
()ur invention also relates to certain do tails of ronstruet-ion hereinafter desrrilaal, and pointed out in the claims.
Weattain the objects above indi 'aled hy means of the ronstruction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and shown and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l is a perspective view of our 1110] wringer. parts of the upper edge of the pail hereinafter referred to being broken away to disclose the roller bearings and pivots hereinafter referred to, 'and Fig). 2, a like view of the pair of rolls, hereinafter re ferred to. detached.
like numerals in hoth views.
In the drawings, 1 is a mop-pail having secured in opposite sides of its mouth, as at 2, two horizontal parallel bars 2} having longitudinal slots 4. At, one end of and be tween these two bars are pivoted, midway bet ween their ends as at 3, opposed iinlebars t), l t-tween the upper ends of these linkhars the holes for the pivots being shown at It Fig. 2 is journaled. as at. 7. a wringer-roll H and between their lower ends is jourualed, as at it, a wringer-roll 10. The ends of the shafts of these two illS project far enough i the top of a hour it.
to rintatt with the top and bottom of the bars 3 when the links 6 are swung on their pivots, so that the shafts of the two rolls are at all times held one above and the other below the bars 3. The two links (i have a movement on their pivots 5 independently of earh other so that. the \XCS ot the two rolls may have a limited swing into and out of the same plane, as illustrated in N 2.
11. is a third wringer-roll having a siat't l2 whirh at opposite ends projects through the slots 4 in the bars 3. \Vheu a mop is to be wrung, it is suspended from the inopstit'k between the roll 11 and the other two rolls. Now the roll 11 is moved in the slots fl so that the mop is tightly squeezed be tween the roll 11 on one Sltl. and the pair of rolls on the other side. Next the mop, thus squeezed, is pulled out; between the rolls and thus the wringing is effected. The play of the link-bars t? on their pivots permits the rolls S 10 to aeeonnuodate themselves to inequalities in the mop. This forward movement of the roll 11 in the guides 4, as well as its retreat, is accomplished by means oi" the devices now to he described.
A U-shaped member 13', having its arms (curved downwardly and which we term a fork, is ('ouneeted at the extremities of its arms with the extremities of the shaft 12. The fork at its middle has a horizolr tall v projeeting arm l-t, pivoted, as at 15, between jaws forming a vertieal opening in This lever is curved dowuvvardl and outwardly, as at 17, and is tuleruua-il. as at 18, upon the outer end of brark t lit, rigidly seeured, as shown, to the side of the pail.
' i0 is a t'oohlever i'ulerumed, as at 21, upon inai'liot. 32 rigidly seeured through bracketpiau- 22 to the side of the pail. The lever 30 bitureated or slotted, as at 23, and through its o ening passes the curved portion ii of {he hv r 16. Between the. two sides of th slot :53 is jourualed, as at .24, a roller 2:) whirh rides upon the upper surl'are oi the (curved part 17. Now, when the operat r stands with one foot upon the foot pit-rti and places his otheefoot upon the pedal 27 of the lev er 20, the roller 25 rides upon the top of the t'lli'VCd part17, swinging the lever 16 upon its t'ulerum and drawing the i'ork l3 and the roll 1] over into operatlvo relation with the pair of rolls 8*-1t). the roll 11 is restored to its normal or open position by means of a sprmg 28 consisting ng-i'vire bent upon o arms thus formed lne two extremities in vertical upon the bracket he spring presses he lever 16 above to secure by Letters Patent with upper entl of said lever, a Wringerroll mg the ends of its shaft mounted injhe fork, :1 pair of parallel bars in the mouth of the 1." l which slidably support the ends of F shaft, :1 pair of linkhurs pix i. V y upon said bars, a journelecl upon and between linlclmrs, a lever of the second class :t'ulerunied. upon the side of the pail and bepair of rolls low saicl bracket and having at its outer end a pedal, a roller carried by said second lever and which rides upon the top of the said curved part of the lever first me timied, and a spring which holds the upprr art. of the lever first mentioned pressed toward the pail.
2. In a device of the described character, in combination, a ail, an upright lever fill. crumecl on the si e of the pail and having at its lower end beloi' its fulcrum a downwardly, outwardly curved arm, :1 foot-lever fulcrunied on the side of the pail and carry ing a roller which rides upon the top of said curved arm, opposed rolls in the mouth of the pail, and a forked member having its arms connected with the opposite ends of one of said rolls and having its outer end pivotally connected with the upper end of said upright lever.
In testimony whereof We afiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
