The object of the present invention is to provide simple and relinble means which will cause the fuel pump to cease uutomuti rally to deliver fuel as soon as the controllinp members of the engine are adjusted for reversal and to commence to deliver tuel us soon as the englnehas changed 'ltsdiroction ct rotation.
The invention consists in the combine lions and arrangements of ports hereinutter set torth and pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates a fuel pump of well known construction the plunger 2 of which is connected with on urm 3 of o ring 4 on an eccentric 5 which may be made integrul with or rigidl secured to a sleeve 6 or the like which is rotatably mounted on the crank she of the engine or on an arbitrary shaft 7 adapted to be driven by the engine. in said sleeve 6 are pivotnily mounted two puwls 8 and 9 which are actuated by springs 10 end 11 respectively, tending to hem the puwls in engagement with corresponding tooth-like notches in the shalt 7. 0n the latter is further mounted at longitudinally sliduble sleeve 12 surrounding the one end of the sleeve 6. The sleeve t2 may be displaced uriully tor instance by means of a hand lever 13, connected with reversing mechanism aduted to be connected to the controlling 111cm ore for the valves,

it will be easily understood by those skilled in the art that for the pawls 8, 9 and the corresponding notches in the shaft 7 may be substituted on other arbitrary clutching devices each n which acts in one direction of rotation of the shaft serving to impart movement to the fuel pump.
Having now described my inventiomwhut I claim as new'and desire to secure by Letters Potent is:
l. The combination with a fuel pump for internal combustion engines ofthe kind set forth, of a driving shalt, means "for trans mitting motion to the fuel pump, two clutclr ing devices serving to connect said driv ng shaft end said means for imparting motion to the fuel pump, each of said clutching do vices being capable to act only in one d1- rection of rotation of said shaft, and means for putting either ct suid clutching devices till tooth-like notches, a sleeve rotatably m0unt ed on the said shaft, means for imparting motion from said sleeve to the fuel pump, tWo pawls pivotally mounted in said sleeve and each adapted to engage one of said notches, and means for putting either of said pawls into and at the same time the otherout of operative position, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination with a fuel pump for internal combustion engines of the kind set forth, of a driving shaft formed With two tooth-like notches, a sleeve rotatably mount ed on the said shaft and formed with an eccentric portion, a ring loosely mounted on said eccentric portion and having an arm connected to the fuel pump, two spring actuated pawls pivotally mounted in said sleeve and each adapted to engage one of said notches, a second sleeve capable of being displaced longitudinally and formed with an annular groove, and means for displacing said second sleeve longitudinally, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
