Letters Patent No. 107.828. dated September 27, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT INPLows.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part Cf the same.
To all whom it my concern),
,Be it known that I, CYRUs 1 SNYDER, of'Middletown,- of the county ofLogan and 'State of -Illinois,
have'iuvented a new and improved Plow; and I do hereby declare that the' following is a full, clear, and 'exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.` l
Dra/wing.
plow.
Figure 2 is a central. verticalelevation. Figure 3 is an elevation of. the bar to which the shovel is attached.'
Figure 4 Vis a transverse sectif -in the line x x of hg. 2. Similar letters of reference denote like parts in each of the figures.
This invention relates to shovcl-plows, for cultivating corn, potatoes, ,to.; and
It consists in the construction, combination, and'.
arrangement of the parts composing the same, as will be hereinafter more fully designated and set forth in specication and claim which ytitulos',
To enable others skilled "n the art to which my invention relates to make use the same, I will proceed to describe its 'onstrlction and operation.
In the drawing-'- A represents the beam of plow B, the plow-stock and C, the shovel. Y
D is a rod or shaft, which is secured to the plowstock by bolts dd, or in any other suitable manner.
Figure 1 .is a perspective view of my improved This rod D extends `below the plow-stock, as shown in iig. 2, its lowerend having a threaded surface.
The shovel C has a lug, c, through which the rod D is passed, when it .is secured by screw-nuts c a o n either' side of the lng o. By this arrangement it will be seen that the shovel can be raised or lowered by V,turning the screws a a, or itmay be 'done and the set 0f it changed by bending the rod D, which should be made of l some malleable metai.
The upper end of rod D has a slot, as shown 1n fig. 3, through which. passes the bolt d, thus allowing the rod to swing to the right or left upon itspivoted point d,.and thus change the position of the shovel.
The shovel can be taken off and reversed, as indicatediu dotted lines in g. 1, if desired.
4Its simplicity, and' capability of being adjusted tol all the positions described, must commend it v4to the judicious farmer.
. Having thus described my invention,
What I claitn, and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States, is
The combination of the shovel O '0, slotted rod D, nuts a a, and bolts d d, substantially as and for the purpose specified. v I'n Atestimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the-presence of two attesting witnesses at Lincoln, in the county. of Logan and State of Illinois, this 7th day ofJuly, A. D.
