To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM E. Come, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bracelet Units, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bracelets and relates more particularly to the units employed in connection with an expansible bracelet of the type depicted in the drawings.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved form of unit in which the parts thereof may be easily and quickly assembled without the use of solder.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a bracelet formed according to the present invention, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the units. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of one of the units with the caps removed. Fig. A is a perspective View of one of the links. Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal section taken through one of the units. Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 showing the parts in the act of assemblage. Fig. 7 is a fragmentary perspective view of one end of one of the two members of the unit frames. Fig. 8 is a plan View of the blank from which the unit frame members are formed, and Fig. 9 is a section taken on the line 9-9 of Fig. 1.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, each unit is formed of a frame which consists of a pair of L-shaped members which have bodies 1, and contracted right angular ends 2, the latter having a pair of opposed cut-out portions 3 which provide substantially T-shaped heads 4. A finishing cap 5 has its marginal edges rolled over one of the bodies 1, a flat spring 6 being interposed between the body and the cap as depicted in Fig. 5' of the drawings. A stop 7 may be provided on the cap 6 to limit inward movement of the spring. The free end of each body 1 is formed with a substantially key-hole shaped slot 8 to admit the heads 4. of the ends 2. A finishing cap 9 is rolled over the other body 1, and the two parts thus constructed are then placed in the posi tion shown in Fig. 6 in which the head 4 of one L-shaped member enters the enlarged end of the slot 8 of the other member, whereupon the caps are slid toward each other to the position illustrated in Fig. 5, in which the outer end ofthe spring '6 engages the head A of the opposite member, the head be ing snapped over the spring in moving the caps to the position shown in Fig. 5. It will therefore be seen that the parts are connected by mere sliding movement eliminating use of solder, and are automatically locked and held in posit-ion by the spring. If desired to disconnect the parts, a sharp instrument may be engaged with the free end of the spring 6 to depress the latter, in order to permit the extreme outer end of the head 4 to pass over the spring, whereupon the parts may be separated by sliding same in opposite directions.
The links 10 that connect the units receive the ends 2 and coiled springs 11 which latter engage between the inner ends of the links and one of the ends 2 of the units. The links are preferably longitudinally corrugated in order to increase the strength thereof and to enhance the ornamental value of the bracelet.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A bracelet unit consisting of a pair of caps, a member connected to each cap in spaced relation thereto and having a right angular end formed on its extremity with opposed slots to provide a substantially T- shaped head, the opposite end of each body having a key-hole shaped slot therein, the head of each member being received in the slot of the other member and in the space between the members and the caps and a fiat spring between one body and the cap thereof having its free end disposed adjacent to the outer end of the slot thereof, said heads be ing movable along the lengths of said slots and said spring having its free end engaging the adjacent head when the parts are assembled to prevent movement of the head toward the enlarged end of the key-hole slot in which said head is received.

A bracelet unit consisting of a pair of caps, a member connected to each cap in spaced relation thereto and having a right angular end formed on its extremity with opposed slots to provide a substantially T- shaped head, the opposite end of each body having a key-hole shaped slot therein, the head of each member being received in the slot of the other member and in the space between the members and the caps and spring caps, a member secured to each cap in-spacedi relation thereto, each member having a slot in one end and; having its other: end; disposed at right angles and formedv on. its extremity With a head, the head ofone member being received in the slot of the other memher, and" spring means confined in the space between one of the caps and the member secured thereto to engage the head. of the other member to hold the members locked against relative movement.
