Description

idealism@ Toall whom 'it mm] concern: i p p Be it known that I, J ULIUs Bnenncuuu, of the city' of` NewYork, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Shutter-Bar; `and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, `clear, and exact description thereof', which will ensanie, `reference being had to the .,ccompan'ying draw-` ing. forming part of this specilic'ation.
of my'improved shutter-bar. J i l Figure 2 is a side or face viev of the saine. ASimilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. l l Y y My invention relatesto shutter-bariasteuings, and
` my object'is to introduce to. the public an improve-4 inentthereon, which will be first described, and then i specified in the claim. p y i ,v My invention has for its objectv to do away with `the -said plates, and vwith the largenumbcr of fastenng-screws, and to make a cheaperand more graceful i astening in every-respect.'
` l My fastening consists of two sheet-:notai b uttous, ALA, each heilig, by one single screw, a., fastened to the shutter. y l Y One-of the said buttons constitutes the pivot, the `other' the receiviug'knobl-for the hook B.

Letters` Patent No. 107,651, dated Septenlber 27, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN sHu'r'rER-FAs'r-'Enmes p The Schedule referred-to in these Letters Patent and making of the sansa t The hook B is fitted upon the circular projection of the cup, 5, and swings thereon, and is confined between the pieces b c, as shown. It locks around the circular shaft l of A tlieother button. Thus, for both shut-ters,
y equal pieces are used, thehook being applicable to the button ou either side.
The cups are cheaply stamped or formed, either of plain or ornamental form, and are fastened tothe 4shutters by screws, c, that pass through their centers.
It isevident that the circular projecting part or shank d may be formed on the outer cup,- c, as well as on the inner.- v
Y Iam yaware that buttons are made of fiatiron disks,- clamped hyszrews. The hook, however, turns on the screw, and not on the sleeve surrounding the screw', as in my case. 'lhe'friction of the hook upon theserew constantly tends to work it loose. This is remedied Iby the interp'osition' of my sleeved. The disks `in these old buttons are either so loose and haveso much play as to rattle, or, if that is obviated by tight clamping, the hook-joiut becomes stili', and Y does not work snioothly. Qn the other hand, my cupsV with'ceutral sleeve, -inolosing screiv, are rigidly held iu place, while the hook turns freely ou the interme- 'diate sleeve.`
Having'thus described my invention, I claim asuew'and desire to secure by Letters Patent l The combiuationvith a hook, B, and clarnpscrew a, of `two cups, la c, having intermediate sleeve d, to surround said screw, as and for-the purpose described.V
