Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed March 26, 1912. Serial No. 686,268.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV HiiBNnR, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Plauen, Vogtland, Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tambour-Frame-Operating Mechanism for Embroidery-Machines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
For the adjustment of tambour frames for embroidery machines, devices are now used in which toothed wheel segments, drum recesses, or other rotatable adjusting bodies, being separately governed from the j acquard mechanism and adjustably mounted, are arranged. Upon adjustment of each single member a variation of their total length for moving the tambour frame, connected therewith, is brought about. The manufacture of such machines, is, however, very costly and diflicult, as the many intricate adjusting parts interconnected in a confusing manner, have to be made with the utmost recision, in order to secure a reliable e ect.
The object of the present invention is to considerably simplify, and reduce the cost of making mechanism for this purpose. As to the construction, the main difference lies in the fact that even adjusting plates, movable in juxtaposition and interconnected by means of sliding pieces, are fitted with keybeds of different slope, which, while acting on projections of the sliding pieces, determine an adjustment of the tambour frame varying according to the adjustment of each single plate. In addition, the insertion of an intermediate link or member, between the plates and the connecting part for the tambour frame, adjustable in length, is an essential improvement, as this allows of materially increasing the height of the embroidcry in use, with only a limited number of plates.
In the accompanying drawing the object of the invention is shown in one form of embodiment; therein the same parts of the several views are always designated by the same reference numbers.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a longitudinal View of the device, partly in section. Fig- 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 shows, in a partial top plan view, the adjustment of a plate. Figs. 4 and 5, represent sections on the lines CD and EF,
of Fig. 3. Fig. 6, is a section on the line AB, of Fig. 1.
In a horizontal bed plate a, sliding pieces 7), movable lengthwise are arranged, and above these are mounted in one row, in juxtaposition, adjusting plates (Z, each of which is provided with converging slots 6, engaged by the pins 0, of the sliding pieces 5, whereby movement of said plates d will cause the pins of adjacent members 6 to approach or recede from each other. In the several plates the slots 6 have a varying relative inclination with a view to secure through the plates (Z, singly adjusted from the jacquard mechanism by the intervention of intermedi ate rods 9, adjustably secured to pivots f, a shift varying in degree according to the movement to be imparted to the tambour frame, not represented in the drawing, and connected with the last sliding piece by a threaded socket it, a threaded bolt engaging the latter, and by a rod is.
As the plates d are all connected with each other by the pins 0, of the sliding pieces 5, the shifting of a plate cl, represented in Figs. 3 and 5, acts on the whole row of the plates. transmitting this effect toward the threaded socket h (as shown by the arrow 1, in Fig. 3,) and through the latter with its bolt 2', on the rod 73 and the tambour frame.
The mechanism constituting the sliding pieces b, b, and the adjusting plates (Z, is only sufiicient for an adjustment of the tambour frame of about 85 mm, and therefore for the further shift an intermediate mem ber consisting of the socket 71. and of the member 2', has been interposed. The threaded socket 7L, rotatable in the bearings m, of the last sliding piece 6 has rigidly con nected thereto a pawl disk 1, to which an intermediate movement is imparted from the pattern card of the jacquard mechanism by means of a rod, or the like, through the intervention of the pawl 1. Thus upon the rotation of the socket it (see Figs. 1 and 2) the threaded member 6 is screwed out in the direction of the arrow 2 as required, enlarging in this way the effective length of the device.
l/Vhat I claim and desire to secure, is
1. The combination with a bed plate, slidable members mounted on said bed plate for movement lengthwise thereof, other members mounted to move transverse said bed plate, coacting means operatively connecting the longitudinally movable members with the transversely movable members, said means being arrangedto vary the distance between the longitudinally movable members as the transversely movable members are moved, a device for varying the moyement of said longitudinally movable members and means to adjust said device.
2. In the device of the kind described, a series of members movable to and from each 10 other, means to move said members to and from each other, and means to vary said movement comprislng a rotatable socket, a
screw held from rotation and extending on said socket and a pawl engaging said ratchet, as described.
