GONTROLLING GAM.
VAPPLIGATION FILED 11:13.26, 1912.

CONTROLLING-CAM.
Application filed February 26, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CAssiUs M. WALKER, a citizen orp the United States, residing at- Pueblo, Colorado, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Controlling-Cams, of which the following is a specification.
ily invention relates to improvements in a controlling cam adapted to use in electromechanical switches of construction where a free pivotal arm is required to be centered.v
rihe objects of my improvement are to provide a means to dispense with the use ot a centering spring or springs, and to furnish a device to center the arm actuating means, and at the same time this fui-- nishes a support for a centering arm. l attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,-
Figure l is a top plan view of an electromechanical s'w itch in which my device is arranged; Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view or a containing box showing the mechanism in elevation; and TFig. 3 is a perspective view of the underneath side of the device showing my invention.
lt is not my purpose to ask for any broad invention in electromechanical switches, but in certain types of mechanical switches, patents for which have been issued, there is provided a containing box l with solenoid 2, a plunger 3, spring means 4 to return the plunger, with pivotal throwing arm 5 attached pivotally to the plunger at 6. The other end of the throwing arm 5 has a boss 18 adapted to engage the cani piece 7 to Specification of Letters Patent.

which is connected through the shaft 8 the connecting means to a switch tongue.
I provide a controlling cam 9, V shaped, to be attached to a division wall or support l1 by bolt means l0. This controlling cam piece extends out under the throwing arm 5. A boss l2 is attached to the underside of the throwing arm 5 and adapted to engage the inner sides of the cam piece 9. lVhen the plunger 3 is released by the current being turned oi from the solenoid 2, the spring means 4t returns the plunger, and the boss 12 on the throwing arm 5 travels on the in side of the cam piece 9 to near the pointed end thereof and thus the throwing arm 5 is supported upon said controlling cani piece 9 and guided to the center position which said throwing arm is to occupy when not being actuated.
l claim.
ln an electromechanical switch device wherein is provided a solenoid; a plunger therein, with spring means for return; a throwing arm pivotally attached to said plunger; a cam piece connected by intermediate means with a switch tongue; to which is applied a controlling cam, V shaped, attached to supporting walls and disposed beneath the said throwing arm, and a boss on the underneath side of said throwing arm adapted to operate on the interior side of said V shaped controlling cam piece; all as described.
