JOHN BAILEY AND DOMINICK BERTOLINO, OF HEPZIBAH, WEST VIRGINIA.
CABLE-SAVING DEVICE.
Application filed. July 5, 1913.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we, JOHN DAILEY and DOMINIOK Bnn'ronmo, citizen of the United States and subject of the King of Italy, respectively, residing at I-Iepzibah, in the county of Harrison and State of Vest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cable- Saving Devices; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for preventing excessive wear upon the insulation of electric mining machine cables and comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
Our invention is illustrated in the accon1 panying drawings, in which Figure l is a top plan View showing the application of our invention within the tunnels or drifts of a mine. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view in elevation showing the same applied to a rail, the latter being illustrated in cross-section, and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan View of the parts shown in Fig. 2.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a bracket of iron or other suitable material, one end of which is bent at A to form a hook to engage over the lange B of the rail B.
C designates a plate which is apertured for the reception of the bolt D, which latter passes through an aperture in the bracket A and the head D of said bolt is countersunk in an aperture in the unoer surface of the bracket A, while a nut F is fitted to the threaded end of the bolt and serves to hold the plate C in a clamped relation with one of the flanges of the rail. Said bracket A has two registering apertures, designated respectively by letters E and E, for the reception of the bolt H, the head I of which is countersunk in the under surface of said bracket member. A roller K is mounted Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 777,574.
upon the bolt I-I intermediate the two par allel portions of the bracket and a nut N is fitted to the threaded part of the bolt and serves to hold the latter in place.
A cable, designated by letter T, is fastened at one end to the car S and adapted to be passed about the roller K and, when thus adjusted, upon reference to Fig. 1 it will be noted that the cable will be held from assuming the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. l of the drawings with the corner of the drift or tunnel and which would tend to wear the insulation from the cable. By passing the cable about the roller, it will be noted that the cable will be held from frictional wearing contact with the wall of the tunnel, thereby preventing the insulation from wearing away therefrom and consequently rendering the cable more efficient.
What we claim to be new is 1. In combination with a bracket member having portions which are parallel to each other and apertured, one end of the member being bent to form a hook and adapted to engage over the flange of a railway rail, a plate for engagement with the flange of a rail, means for holding said plate against said member, a bolt passing through regis tering apertures in the parallel portions of the member, and a roller journaled upon said bolt, as set forth.
2. In combination with a bracket member having portions which are parallel to each other and apertured, one end of the member being bent to form a hook and adapted to engage over the flange of a railway rail, aplate for engagementwith the flange of a rail, a bolt passing through said member and plate and having a head countersunk in the 1nemher, a nut upon the bolt, a second bolt passing through registering apertures in said parallel portions of the member and having a head countersunk in the member, and a roller journaled upon the bolt intermediate the parallel portions of said member, as set forth.
In testimony whereof we hereunto aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN BAILEY. DOMINICK BERTOLINO.
