Letters Patent No. 107,528,
(lated September 20,1870.
- IMPROVEMENT IN HAMn-rAs'i-BNINGS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom Iit may concern;
Be it known that 1', SINCLAIR D. G. NiLns, of Helena, in the county of Phillips and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and improved Hame-Fastening; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speciiication.
rPhe drawing represent-s a face view of a set ot" llames, provided with my improvedfastening'.
My object in this invent-,ion isv to provide an iniproved fastening for the hames of 'horse-collars, whereby they shall be made stronger, s-mpler, and more convenient than those now in use.
The invention consists in the arrangement of a chain and slottedplate with themctal sheathing and locking-key of the haines, in the manner hereinafter described. e
A in the drawing represents the cha-in, which is Secured with one end to the lower part of' one, the left haine, B. It is secured by means of a staple, a, or equivalent fastening.
The chain for the purpose o` connecting the haines B C is passed through the orifices formed 'near the lower end of the same, or through the perforated straps b, thatl line the haines, when such straps are used.
The free end of the chain carries a slotted plate,"c, which is fitted upon a hook or cateh, ll, projecting from the-hamesG, as shown inthe drawing.` This fastening is extremely simple, and readily applied or removed."
I connect the upper ends ofthe haines by means not claimed to be new. The same consists, principally, of a chain, D, whose ends are secured to links or loops e c,` which embrace the haines.
Each loop e has a project-ing. pin, j; at itsV inner side, the said pin tting into an aperture or notch provided for it on the hames'or band b thereby the chain Dis supported at any desired height.
By providing a number of -apertures or notches in the haines, for the lreception of the pins f, the chain is made vertically adjustable, so it can any height., y
Having thus described my invention, A
I claim as new and desire-t0 secure by Letters Patent- The improved haine-ihstening, consisting of the chain A,.connected at one end to the Ahaine B, lby means ot' the staple c passing through the perforations in the ends of the vmetal straps b l), and vpro-- videdl at the other end with the slotted plate c, fitted upon the catch or hook d of the llames C, all as herein shown and described.
