To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, HUGH M. KYLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Vernon, in the county of Linn and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Wire- Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to wire splicers; and it has for its object the provision of a device of this character which may be used in connection with any suitable well known form of wire stretcher during the stretching operation of line wires of a fence structure and which will serve to retain the terminals of wire ends in such positions that they may be efiectually intertwisted and the surplus end of one wire properly tightened before the intertwisting operation of both wires is made.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings :Figure l is a perspective view of the device, showing the application of the same to adjacent wire ends; and Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the stretching lever adjusted and illustrating the manner of winding one of the wire terminals around the other.

The device herein illustrated is intended primarily to be used in connection with any well known form of wire stretcher which may be commonly designed for the purpose of stretching the line wires of a fence structure. F or this reason the device comprises a substantially U-frame l, which is provided with the vertical branches or short arms 2 and 3, the latter having its upper terminal formed to provide a hook t which may be connected with the drawing or tensioning element of the wire stretcher (not shown). The open end of the hook is preferably provided with a suitable keeper 5 which may be adjusted to close the hook so as to prevent the latter from accidentally escaping from the stretching apparatus. The opposite branch 2 is provided at its upper end with a pivoted stretching lever 6 whereon is mounted a pivoted wire clamp 7. The branch 2 is also provided with a suitable pivotally mounted wire clamp 8.

In operation the hook 5 is connected with the stretching apparatus as previously described. The wire 9 is connected with the clamp 8, and the terminal 10 of the wire is extended into the space between the two branches 2 and 3. The stretching apparatus is then operated so that the wire 9 may be brought under the required tension. The clamp 7 is then associated with the terminal end 11 of the wire 12 and the lever 6 adjusted so that the terminal 11 may also be brought under the necessary tension. After adjusting the lever 6 in this manner the terminal 11 of the wire 12 will be disposed immediately above the terminal 10 of the wire 9, whereby the latter may be coiled or suitably twisted around the terminal 12, so as to form in the wire an effec tive splice. After this operation, the clamp 7 is removed from the extremity of the portion 11 of the wire, so as to permit of the removal of the device in its entirety from the wire as will be understood.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood with out requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A device of the character described comprising a frame provided with branch arms lying substantially in parallel relation with one another, one of the arms terminating in a hook, a clamp pivotally supported upon the other arm and disposed in line with the hook, said other arm being extended above the point of connection of the clamp therewith, a swinging lever mounted on the extension of the said other arm and adjustable with relation to the clamp, and a clamp can ried by the lever.
