Be it. known that I, Ancrnn CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a. certain new and useful Improvement in Railway Draft-Elgging, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in railway draft rigging.
The object of my invention is to provide a railway draft rigging of simple and cheap construction.
In the accompanying drawings, which represent the preferred way of carrying out my improvements, Figure 1 is a plan view partly in'horizontal section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly in vertical longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan View showing the opening through which one of the shock absorbing mechanisms is inserted. Fig. 4 is a cross section on line Jr-45 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of one of the draft members. Fig. 6 is a cross section on line 6-6 of Fig. 5. Fig. 7 is aperspective view of the sleeve.

parallel sides 20, 20 between which the shock absorbing mechanism is sustained, the said sides being curved inwardly at their top and joining in the web 21, which is surmounted by the flange 22. The draft members extend rearwardly to the body bolster 23, and are suitably attached to the single center sill 24, though it is apparent that the said draft members may be readily attached to double center sills.
The side faces of the draft members near their rear ends are joined together at both top and bottom by the preferably integral members 25 and 26 forming the pocket or recess 27, which is closed at its rear end by the preferably integral plate 28, the said pocket containing a shock absorbing mechanism, preferably the spring 29, which bears at its rear end against the closed end 28 of the pocket, and bears at its forward end against the rear end 11 of the casing 10. The rear end of the draft members 30 rests against the front end of the sills of the car, and the front face 31 of the body bolster, and is'secured tothe body bolster by the rivets 32, 32 passing through suitable flanges 33, 33 provided at the rear end of draft members, and through the said bolster and center sills.
, It will be apparent upon buffing action of the gear, the rear end 11 of the casing 10 on rearward movement compresses the shock absorbing mechanism 29 withinthe pocket 27, and on pulling movement the forward travel of the draw bar will compress the shock absorbing mechanism between the rear end 11 of the casing and the sleeve 14. upon the key 15.
I claim 1. In a railway draft rigging the combination with the draw bar and means for supporting the same, of draft members and a .shock absorbing mechanism between said draft members, a hollow casing secured to the draw bar springs within said hollow casing, a key passing through said casing and slidingly engaging the draft members, the said draft members have their side faces joined together at the top and bottom form- PatentedSept .30,1913,
