To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR PERCY STRO MENGER, a subject of the King of Great Blltain, residing at Caxton House, Westmlnster, London, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in the Electric Deposition of Metals by Fusion, of which the following is a specification.
This invention. relates to processes in which an electric current is employed to The insulating material which I prefer to use is asbestos spun into the form of yarn and smeared w1th a suitablecomposition such as sodium silicate, aluminium silicate and the like to vary the fusing temperature of the yarn.
The accompanying drawin shows diagrammatically two methods 0 patching the worn head of a tramway rail.
Figure 1 shows the use of a straight electrode and Fig. 2 shows the use of a curved electrode.
In Fig. 1 the electrode formed of a strip Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 14, 1818. Serial No. 741,948.
ELECTRIC DEPOSITION OF METALS BY FUSION.
Patented Sept. 16, 1913.
of metal a. coated with insulating material b is connected to the positive pole of a source of direct current and is placed on the rail 0 (which is connected to the n ative pole) in an inclined position one en being'supported by a block (I while aweight e is placed on the strip. On the are being started the coating b which protects the electrode and prevents the current jumping from the electrode to the work except at the arc, is fused at the arc and acts as a slag and the metal of the strip is deposited on the rail; the arc moves back along the strip, the end of which is always pressed down toward the surface of the rail but is kept out of actual, contact by the coating 6.
In Fig. 2 instead of astraight strip supported on a block, a curved strip is shown.
What I claim is REISSUED A process of depositing metal by means ARTHUR PERCY STROHMENGER.
