skilled in the art to which it appertains toy make and use the same.
This invention Vrelates to improvements in ball cock seat dresser guides.
One obj ect the inventio-n is to provide a dresser guidi@ by means of which the seats of ball 4cocks or lfloat operated valves having bodies without threads, may be readily dressed without placing the same in aV lathe.
Another object of the invention is to provide a dresser guide which is adjustable to several sizes and is adapted to be used in connection with a bib seat dresser.r for the purpose of dressing the seat of a ball cock or closet valve. Y Y
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction,- and the combination and arrangement of parts Vas will be more fully described and claimed. l
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 lis a central vertical sectional view of a ball cock casing showing the invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is partly aV side view and partly a vertical sectional view of the dresser and the guide, showing the manner in which part'of the sections of the same are removed to reduce the guide to itsproper size to t the valve casing to which the dresser' is to be applied. Fig. 3 is a side view. of the dresser. Fig. 4 is a sectionalv perspective view of one of the sections of the guide.
Referring more particularly to .the drawings l denotes the'body or casing of a ball cock or float valve 0f the usual forni wherein the body is jsmooth or has no screw threads and 2 denotes the valve seat.
My improved dresser guide ,comprisesv a vplurality of cylindrical vtubes or shells graduated Vin size and nested together or fitting one within the other whereby one or ymore vof the same may be removed to adjust f the guide to the body or casing of the valve.
Onthe upper ends ofthe tubes or shells of theV guide are annular radially Vand Voutwardly projecting flanges 4, which hold the tubes in place when in use. As clearly shown thetubes 8 arevof an'iequral length whereby I when the annular outwardly projectingr shoulders of the-same are in contact, th'eouter or larger tube will project beyond the inner surface of the valve casing l, whereby when it is desired to remove the tool'the dresser head-7 is brought in contact with the projecting lower edge of said outer tube and the tool together with the sleeve thereon readily removed yfrom the valve. rlhe Aannular' Specification of Letters Patent. y ateted Sept. 16, 19131. y VAppiieaiimi inea June'io, 191.2. serial No. 702,848. u l
lianges of the sleeve also provide etlicient j means fo-r separating the same by inserting a suitable toolbetween said flanges. Revolu-4 bly engaged with the linnermost tube or'slie'll .end an operating` knob or head 8.
In applying the device, the outer tubes or shells 3 ofthe guide are removed until the latter is o-f theproper size to lit within the.' ide is* valve'body o-r casing with which the to be engaged for guiding andholding the dresser while being operated in the usualV manner for dressing the valve seat.
Unless the body of a valve is threaded'itA has heretoforebeen impossible to dress the valve seat of a ball cock without the samel being chucked in a lathe. By providing my improved guide and substituting the same for the usual threaded bonnet ofa bib dresser the valve seat may be accurately connection with the y accompanying draw-V ings, the-construction and'operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.Y
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim is;
A ball cock drical tubes of uniform thickness throughoutv their entire length, graduated in size vseati'dresser guidefcomprisi'ng j a plurality of similarly constructed cyliny.
and telescopically connected, said tubes havf, j f ing smooth inner and outer surfaces ard ranged to slide freely 'within' each other,
radially projecting annular flanges formedv on the outer ends of said tubes, whereby they are supported on each other `and one or more may be'readily removed to adjust the deviceV tothe proper size for engagement with a ball cock, the lower edge of the. outer or larger tube projecting beyond the inner surface of the valve casing, a dresser stem slidably and revolubly arranged in the smaller tube, and
v a' dressing bit detaehably secured toMY .the myhani in presence of two subscribig witlower end of thestem and adapted to be `messes.`
brought in Contact with the lower projecting edge of the larger tube when it; is de- GEORGE REDEKER 5 sir-ed to remove the tool from the valve eas.. Witnesses:
