To all 'u1/icm vit may concern:
Be it known .that l, Amann Illinois, have invented certain new and use- .':tull {lmljirovemcnts in Doors, of which the `l folk-)wing .is 'a speci-tication, .and which are. ml'lfustrated mat-he .accompanying drmvings,`
forming a part thereof.
. The invention relates :to doors for build, ings, and is especially adapted for metal doers such as are used in car 'construction .f 1 -lnthisiclassof work difficulty is encountered ,in securing ,a 'iper-feet :tit -of the door and its the framing; has been put in place, and while.
casing. 1t the practice to adjust doors of vany character to .the door opening after nofserious diiiiculty is encountered in pro -e1ly fitting a door made ofwood great di culty is encountered inproperly fitting .metal door.
hillhe object off though obviously it might `the purpose" of vertical' adjustment.
comprising a pluralityl ortelescoping sections, with means for 4relatively moving .ad-
jacent sections;
More specifically, it consists in a door hav-lI ing one of its rails divided, the two secy .tionsbeing'r secured together in such manner .w-thatfthey :magi/L be relatively adjusted eitherthe purpose of varying the width ofthe door throughout its entire extent, or for giving it slight variations in width from end to end for the purpose of adapting it toa casingr which is slightly out of true.l
The invention consists in further details of construction all as hereinafter described,
and .as shown in the accompanying drawf ings, in which- Figure 1 1s a detail elevation, partlyinf sec-tion, of a door casing and door; Fig. 2 is asectional detail on theline 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a 'sectional detail on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is' a sectional detail on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1x and Fig.. 5 is a detail. planview of the door.
The jambs of the door casing are represented at 10, 11,"and its lintel at 12.
The door,.generally represented by the numeral 13, vis shown as comprising a frame-l Work of sheet metal, with suitable panels which may be of glass, as shown at 14. The

.by means of hinges, as 15, 16. The 'hinge 'stile ot the door comprises a sheet metal shell 17,:extending outwardly from the panel and consisting of a pair of side plates,.the outer ends ot' which are spaced apart to yreceive an adjustable sheet metal section 13, generally U-shaped in cross-section.y and 'to which the 'hinges are attached. The iside p latescf the member 18 are offset inwardly, ,es shown at 19, .20, to permit them to slid-A ingly tit lhetween the side plates of the .shell 11??.
A tenen ,21, -formcdo sheet metal bent to 'U shape, is secumcd between the side plates. ofjthe shell 17, as by .means of rivets-22. The side walls of this tenen are offset-inwardly, as shown at 23, 24, to fit between and .Stich-ugly engage the inner surfaces-of. the-,offset portions of the side plates of the-0 r. sti-ie section 18, 'thus providing: 'space 'bei this invention 1s .to provide tor the adjustment (if the door laterally,L
portions of the side walls of the shell 17 between which the inner portions ci the i side pilates of the stile section 18 may enter.
A .flat oar 25 is fitted within the stile section 18 lying against the inner tace of its cross# This bar is continuous throughits topanctbottolm'as indicated by dotted lines, .as shown at 2G, 27. "These lateral" .extensions of the har 25 are housed within the cross-bars 28, 2S), within which there are tilted crcss-bars 3Q, 31 for receiving' securing screws 3 2, 33, which pass ythrough the `lateral extensions 26, 27.
A foar 3d is `secured within at ,the
,outer edge of :the tenori 21 for receiving screw- holts 35, 36, as many loeinused as the `judgment of the builder may dictate, these screw-bolts entering through the outer edge ofthe stile section 18 and passindvthrough the bar 25.. Expansion springs 3g?, 38, are interposed between the bar 25 and the outer edge of the tenon 21 for the purpose. of urging these elements apart, thus permitting the expansion oi`the stile as the lscrews 35, 36, are turned back and preventing any rattlingr ofthe parts. By turning the screws 35, 3G, bynieans of a screw-driver the Width of the door may be varied either uniformly or otherwise, as may be required to properly t 'it to the casing. The screws 32, 33,set

The telescopic engagcmentof the two sections -of thesti'le rovides a neat joint and gives the door a nished appearance. Ad- Justmentsilare, of course, seldom required,
-usuallyfiiimetallic structures the original fitting being the onlyy change that is ever required.` The door may, therefore, be painted after the adjustment is made, an

2. In a door, in combination, to and'bot tom rails having longitudinal c annels, a
y side rail comprising a plurality 'of sheet metal sect-ions IJ-shaped in cross-section, the side plates of one section fittingl between and Vslidingly engaging the side plates of the other section, a rigid bar fitted within and extending throughout the length of the outer section of the side rail ard having laterally extending' arms slidingly engaging the channels in the top and bottom rails of the door,
and means for adjustably securing the two sections of the side rail together.
3. In a door, in combination, 'a sectional stile formed of sheet metal and comprising a shell open at its outer edge, a, tenon se` cured Within the shell and extending beyond the outer edge thereof, a stile section U- shaped in cross-section and telescopically receivingl'the tenon, and means for adjust ably securing the stile section to the tenon.
. 4. In a door, in combination, a sectional stile formed of sheet metal and comprising a shell open at its outer edge, a tenon secured yWithin the shell and extending beyond the outer edge thereof, a stile section U- shaped in cross-section and telescopically receiving the tenon, and means for adjust4 ably securing the stile section tothe tenon,
theinner edges of the side plates of the stile section fitting between the side plates of the shell-and the tenon.
5. In a door,'1n combination, a sectional stile formed of sheet metal and comprising a shell open at its outer edge, a tenon se'- cured within the shell and extending beyond the outer edge thereof, avstile section U- shaped in cross-section and telescopically receivin the tenon, and screw-bolts setting loosely t rough the edge face of the stile section and being in threaded engagement with the tenon. .'f l l 6. In adoor, in combination a sectional stile formed ofsheet metal ,and"comprising a shell o en at its outer edge, a' tenonsecured wit in the shell and extending beyond the outer edgethereof, a stile section U- shaped in .cross-section `and telescopically receiving the tenon, loosely through the edge face of the stile section and being in threaded engagement with the tenon, and expansion springs re acting between the end of the tenon and the edoe wall of the stile section. j
In a door, incombination a sectional stile formed of sheet metal and ,comprising a shell o en at its outer edge, a tenon Secured wit in the shelland extending beyond the outer edge thereof, a stile section U- shaped in cross-section and telescopically receiving the tenon, means 'for adjustably securing the stile section to the tenon, and bars extending laterally from the stile secscrewbolts setting tion across the top and ,bottoni of the door,
and mea-ns for securing such bars in their adjusted position. A
