To all whom it mag/'concern v I Be it known that I, EDGAR F. DOTY, of Ravenna, in the county of Portage and-State of Ohio, have made certain new and `useful Improvements in the Manufacture of Ladies Boots; and I do hereby declare the following to he a full and exact description v the sweat of the. foot, will valso yield to its expansion and contraction; and has for its object the formation of a boot that can be put onor removed from the foot with ease, that will t the foot comfortably, that will retain its form, and. shield its elasticfrom the sweatof the foot andconsequentrot.

In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1`is a side elevation of a boot with my improvernent;

Figure 2 represents a vsection of on'e side of the boot, similarly furnished; and

' Figure 3 represents a similar section of the' lining.

A is the npper portion of the leg of the boot. This portion of the leg is closed, and is not providedv` with elastic.

B o is the elastic. The @astice o, it will bena ticed, is placed vertically in the boot, so as tocover the ankle-joint.

It is obvious that the smallest part of a boot isv that where thcfoot joins .the leg, and, in putting on and removing boots from the feet, this is the point of difficulty; hence boot-s have always had to be made open or baggy at this point. My improvement over-v comes this diliculty, allows the boot-to snugly fit the ankle and leg, and retain its form unimpaired.

The lining of the leg of the hoot, iig. 3, is provided with two vertical slits, marked D E. These slits permit the lining toconformto the expansion and con traction of the elastic sections B O, and forms a. lining for the same, which shieldsthexn from the sweat of the foot, and thereby saves them from rot.

Having thus fully described the nature and opera tion of my improvement,

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In boots, the arrangement of the elastic sections and the slitted linings -herein shown, substantially as set forth and `for the purposes described.
