Description

ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 2, 1913.
IAVENTOR John AIHL-Lber.
1 mwv J. A. HUBER.
ADJUSTABLE PIVOT BEARING.
AP PLIOATION TILED MAR. 29, 1911.
UNITED STATES PaaENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. HUBER, 0F LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
ADJUSTABLE PIVOT-BEARING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 2, 1913.
Application filed March 29, 1911. Serial No. 617,586.
To all whom it mat concern.
Be it known tiat 1, JOHN A. HUBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Pivot-Bearings, of which the following is a specification, reference being the can becomes worn, the can will become" lower in the tub which will bring the gearing, which rotates the can, out of mesh, unless the flanged pivot post is removed and packing placed between it and the tub bottom, which is unsatisfactory ,in many ways. To obviate-this trouble, I have constructed an adjustable pivot post that is cheap, du-
' rable and efiicient, and that may be used with most styles of freezers now in use.
With these and other objects in view, my
invention consists. in certain construction and combination of parts that will hereinafter be fully described and claimed in the annexed specification, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views; but it is fully understood that while I have here described my invention as shown, that I do not confine myself to the exact design, as slight changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a artial detail vertical sectional view of a reezer embodying my device, and showing the parts before much wear hastaken place. Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing-the position of the parts after the socket member has become worn, and the method of compensatiug for said wear. Fig. 3 isa top plan view of the device.
Copies of this patent may beobtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Iatents.
4 a Washington, D. 0."
Referring to the drawings, the usual freezer tub is indicated by the sides 1, and the bottom 2; and the rotatable can by the numeral 3. The tub'bottom 2, is provided with' a central orifice 4, within which liemounted the socket member 5, having radial attaching arms 6, by which it is secured to the tu bottom 2, by the screws 7;
a water-tight packing materlal 8, being disposed between. Said member5 is provided with a socketq9, which communicates with a screw hole 10, in the bottom of said member. Within said socket 9, is mounted a pivot post 11, which is formed with a flanged head 12, having a cone-shaped pivot 13, thereon; and a bore 14, screwthreaded to receive the securing screw 15.
When the device is first put into'use, .the
pivot post 11, is secured in the socket 9, as,-
shown in Fig. 1, with one washer 16, placed under the flanged head 12 and in a seat 17 formed in the top' of said as the bearing member 18, which is attached to the can 3, becomes worn, one or more additional washers 19, may be employed, as shown in Fig. 2, which keeps the can 3, the proper distance from the bottom 2, to give the operating gears the required mesh.
Having thus described my invention what member 5. But f I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In an adjustable pivot bearing, the combination with a bearing member, of a socket member having a counterbored seat thereon.
and radial attaching arms provided with attaching means, a pivot post having a screw-threaded bore mounted in said socket member, said pivot post member having a flanged head and a cone-shaped pivot, a screw adjustably securing said socket member and pivot post together and a washer interposed in the counterbored seat between the flanged head and socket member.
In testimony whereof I aflix my' signature in presence oftwo witnesses.
JOHN A. HUBER.
Witnesses:
WM. J. COUL'mR, JOHN J. THOMPSON.
