Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED DIGGORE FROOD, OF EAST CAULFIELD, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA.
COMPOSITION FOR CLEANING METAL GOODS AND PAINTWORK.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALFRED Dloeouii Fnoon, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Dilkoosha, Alma Road, East Caulfield, in the State of Victoria and Commonwealth of Australia, have invented an Improved Composition for Cleaning Metal Goods and Paintwork, of which the following is a specification.
My invention of a composition for cleaning metal goods and paintwork consists of the following ingredients and preferably in the proportion stated, viz: tamarind, 1 pound by weight, saponaceous matter such as soap-nut or common soap 5 ounces by weight, water 1 quart by measurement. I use soap-nut in preference to common soap, but when the former is not obtainable the latter may be used, but does not give such good results, as the alkali therein minimizes to some extent the action of the acid of the tamarind. The ingredients mentioned are placed in any suitable vessel such as a boiler or caldron and subjected to heat, and at the expiration of half an hour after the admixture reaches the boiling point, it is removed from the boiler and strained in order to re- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 17, 1912.

move therefrom any portions of the tamarind or soap-nut (when the latter is used 1nstead of soap) that may not have been digested during the boiling operation. The composition is then packed in any suitable receptacle.
To use my composition all that is necessary to do is to apply a little thereof by means of a brush or cloth to the article to be cleaned, and afterward remove same with a wet cloth. The result will be that the article will be thoroughly cleaned and be as good as now.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent 01 the United States is The herein described composition consisting of tamarind, saponaceous matter, such as soap-nut or common soap, and water substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALFRED DIGGORE FROOD.
