To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM O. BECK, citizen of the United States, residing at Ridgefield, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Substation Telephone Sets, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description.
This invention relates to telephone subscribers sets and more particularly to improvements in metal subscriber sets.
The object of this invention is to provide a novel and convenient means for attaching a metal shelf to a subscriber set box in such a manner as to use the minimum number of mounting screws and still insure that the attachment will be in perfect alinement with the set to which it is attached.
In a subscriber set embodying this invention the back member of the telephone box is provided with notches adapted to engage lugs upon a shelf supporting member to retain said member in place with the shelf in alinement with said box.
In the drawings illustrating this invention Figure 1 is a front elevation of a subscriber box with the shelf attachment. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional View of parts shown in Fig. l and Fig. 8 is a fragmentary detail view of the locking means.
As shown in the drawings 5 designates a metal subscriber set box carrying a transmitter 6, a pair of gongs 7, 7 and a switch book 8 for supporting a receiver 9. Within the box 5 may be mounted a condenser, an induction coil and ringer spools none of which is shown. For supporting the box 5 upon a wall or other suitable support such as the back board 10 there is provided a frame member 11 which is turned over at its edges to form a flange 12. The box 5 is hinged to this frame member and said member may be attached to the wall or other support by means of suitable screws inserted from the front thereof from within the box.
Carried by a supporting member 15 is a diagonally arranged shelf 16 having one end attached to said member 15 and being further supported by means of diagonally arranged braces 17, 17 the outer ends of which are attached to the lower face of the shelf and the inner ends of which are attached to the supporting member 16. The edge of said supporting member is turned over to form a flange 18. Formed upon the flanged portion of the upper end of the supporting member 16 are two T shaped lugs 20, 20 having their ends 21, 21 bent or turned outwardly. The flange portion at the lower end of the frame member 11 is provided with two laterally separated notches 22, 22 spaced the same distance apart as the lugs 20, 20. The depth of said notches 22, 22 is the same as the thickness of the metal from which the lugs 20, 20 are formed and are engaged by said lugs with the turned over portions thereof resting upon the flange of the frame member 11. With the lugs 20, 20 in the notches 22, 22 and the frame piece 11 clamped tightly against its support the mounting member 16 will automatically aline itself with the box 5 and will be held against lateral movement by means of the projections on the lugs 20, 20. The depth of the notches 22, 22 being the same as the thickness of the metal from which the lugs 20, 20 are formed said lugs will be clamped tightly against the support to which the box is attached. Screws 25, 25 may be inserted near the lower margin of the member 16 to assist in maintaining said member in position.
The principal advantage of the scheme described is that it avoids the use of numerous screws and insures that the shelf will be held rigidly and in perfect alinement with the subscriber set box.
What I claim is 1. In combination, a telephone set box, a frame member therefor adapted to be secured to a support, a flange upon said frame member provided with laterally separated notches, a shelf supporting member and lugs on said shelf supporting member cooperating with the notches in said flange;
