In combination with railroad rails, blocks or rail seats arranged in a common plane longitudinally and having lugs engageable with the edges of the rail flanges, a monolithic, cementitious tie in which the blocks are embedded with their upper surfaces in the plane of the top of the tie, reinforcing rods extending longitudinally through the tie, abutting shoulders formed on the blocks for receiving a portion of the load imposed upon the blocks, said blocks having core holes with divergent, intersecting channels, and spikes having divided shanks forming bendable prongs for following the channels in the blocks when driven in.
3. A railroad tie comprising a monolithic,
cementitious body, iron rail chairs embedded at suitable locations in the body and having shoulders projecting from both sides, and longitudinalreinforcing rods arranged in upper and lower sets and seating against said shoulders for receiving a portion of the load imposed upon the chairs.
4. In a railway tie, a pair 01": axially coinciding spaced chairs having lugs on their rail-bearing surfaces fior holding the rails against lateral movement and having shoulders on both of their longer side's, reinforcing irons positioned by and bearing against said shoulders, and a cementitious body structure inclosing said rods and all of said chairs with the exception ,of the rail-bear ing surfaces thereof.
