Description

E. J. KmAs,
BROOM HEAD.
APPLICATION FILED JUIIBZB, 1912.

W'IZIVESSES INVENTOR & @mw, lwwd 22 h W llhlll llllill ihtATENT OFFICE.
Application filed June 12 122.
t pccitoatiou Letters I'ateuh i'b all who-m may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND d. Ennis, a citizen of the United States. residing; 'Woodsdale, in the county of Stevens and State of Kansas, have invented now and useful improvements in Broom Heads, of which the following" is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in broom hr. .ds,'adapted to be refilled by the cousumer at small cost and With facility; the obj cots in view being; to provide a simple moans "for engaging the broom-corn and a readily oporatable'dovice for holding such securing means in operative position.
With the above and other objects in view, my inventionrelates to such details of construction and in the arrangement and. coinbiuation of parts as will be herciuafter more fully described and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
in describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denoto like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in whioh Figure l is a side elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a. cross sectional view thereof taken on line 2-43, Fig. 1. 3 is a front elevation of one of the sections of the body portion of my device. Fig. i is a detail sectional View illustrating the joint of the body sections. 5 is a cross sectional. View through the broom handle engaging extensions, and, Fig. 6 is a fragmentary View in section, illustrating one of the broom handle engaging extensions. I
Referring to the drawings, hollow sectious 1 are provided and collectively form a hollow body, casing or tiberorecciving memher. The sections havc extensions 2, formed thereon and have their lower edges turned inwardly as at 3, for the purpose heroinafter appearing". The outer edges of the sections are bent as shown at 1 whereby they may be securely held in engagement with each other as shown. For the purpose of holding the extensions in engagement with each other, their edges are rolled as at The extensions may be attached. to the banfrom each other and maintained in such position preparatory to the insertion of substitute straw. Said means as shown, conof} screw threaded bolts pr pins 12 connected to tho gripping members 8 and extending through enlarged slots or openings 18 in the sections L Beyond the sections 1 the screw threads of the pins 12 are engaged by a winged nut 14:. It will be realized that when it is desired to move the members 8 away from each other, that the nuts 14 are turned in the proper direction so that the engagement thereof with the threads, will move the same'apart. Upon unscrewing the nuts 14, it is obvious that the members 8 will be free to spring toward each other so as to effectively grip the substituted straw.
.1 The greatest of stress is laid upon the simplicity of my invention and it is thought that the advantages and novel features of the same will. be readily appreciated from the foregoing disclosure.
I desire it to be understood that I may make slight changes in the arrangement and combination of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, provided however such changes fall within the scope of the sub-joined claims.
Having thus fully described my invention,- what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
gripping plates orjaw members 8, of
l. A broom head including a'fiber'receiving casing, a retro ctable gripping jaw withadapted to disengage the jaw *broom fiber.
v 2'. A broom head including a fiber receiv ing casing and a, pair of gripping jaws 5 within said casing made of yieldabie mate-- rial, said casing provided with an opening adjacent each gripping member, a boit a item the I finding thmugh $3031 0 unm aed to ajaseni yaw and a, nut 011 S211 13033:; ezemm' msl 5.
