MOTOR-DRIVEN TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed September 9, 1910. Serial No. 581,182.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LUMAN L. Goonnrorr, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of Bexar, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Motor-Driven Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in rotatable tables, such as are employed for the display of goods and for general serving purposes in hotels, restaurants and other places.
One of the objects of the invention is the construction of a table having a rotatable central section and a motor driving mechanism concealed within the table for driving the rotatable section whenever desired.
Another objectof the invention is the construction of a table having a rotatable section and an improved electric driving mechanism mounted within the table for driving the rotatable section whenever desired.
YVith the above and other objects in view the invent-ion consists in certain combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved table. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on an enlarged scale of a bearing member. Fig. 4 is a detail plan view of the motor and its casing.
Referring to the accompanying drawings 1 denotes the supporting legs on the upper ends of which an annular table section 2 is mounted, the outer edge of which projects outwardly of the vertical planes of the legs 1. The table section 2 is provided with a top board 3 having a circular opening in its center. The center section 3 corresponding in dimensions to the circular opening in the top board 3 is mounted for rotation within said opening.
A horizontally disposed supporting sec tion a is supported on the legs 1 by means of a vertical annular'flange 5 or hanger bars. The central portion of the section or plate 1 is formed with an opening to receive the operating motor 6 and the frame work 7, all of which are supported on a central leg 8.

The motor 6 is arranged on the upper end of the leg 8 and in the frame work 7 so that its axis occupies a vertical plane and the armature shaft 9 of said motor is extended above the upper end of the field magnets and the armature end is rigidly secured at 10 to the central rotatable section 3, the upper face of which lies flush with the upper face of the annular or outer section 3. The table section 3 is provided with depending supporting legs 12 on the lower ends of which wheels or runners 13 are pivotally mounted to engage with the annular groove track 14 rigidly secured to the upper face of the plate or stationary table section 1.
An electric motor is used to drive the rotatable section 3 of the table as it is noiseless and can be started and stopped practically instantaneously. Current is fed to the motor 6 through the medium of feed wires 15 which are connected with binding posts 16 on the motor casing and which are passed over the stationary table section 1 under the grooved track 14 and which connect to a manually operated button 17 secured to the table section 2. From the button Or switch 17 the wires 15 lead to a rheostat 1S and thence by a cable 19 which is provided with a standard connecting plug 20 to the current source.
By operating the switch or button 17 current is supplied to the motor 6 and the armature shaft 9 and the rotatable table section 11 with the depending legs 12 will be rotated within the annular table section 2 and over the stationary table section 4. When the table is employed for serving purposes a button switch would doubtless be found most useful as it provides for convenient and instantaneous control over the starting and stopping of the table, but when the table is employed for advertising and similar purposes and it is desirable to maintain the central rotatable section 11 in constant motion, another form of a switch such as a knife switch may be employed.
When the section 2 is made hollow suitable inlet doors may be arranged on the side thereof so that various things may be kept in the table and a wall 3 is provided for supporting the inner edge of the section 3. By means of the vertically disposed motor 6 the use of all gearing and transmission mechanism is dispensed with and a direct drive of the motor to the rotatable table section is secured.
Having described my invention, What is claimed as new, is
A table including a top section, support ing legs, said top section having a central circular opening, a rotatable top section mounted within said opening, a centrally disposed supporting leg having a central longitudinally extending recess in its upper portion, an electrically driven motor mounted in said recess, direct rigid connect-ions between the said shaft of said motor and said revolving top section, and means for controlling the operation of the motor.
