After the Aclamp has been locked upon the seat the long end ot' the used strip is torn od across the edge ot' the clamp and the machine is ready for use. @bviously the outer face of the clamp makes a break in the abrading surface, but it is in the arc of the latter and narrow, and no objectionable effects result.
Various changes or modifications in details of construction and arrangement may be made by those skilled in the art without departing trom the spirit and scope of the present invention as set forth in the claims hereunto annexed.

3. ln a .device of the class described,` a hollow, rotatable carrier having a cylindrical Wall adapted to sustain an encircling portion of an elongated abradingr strip, said wall having a transverse, slotted seat for the passage into the carrier of the surplus portion of the abradinp; strip. and adjustable means to clamp upon the seat the adjacent ends ofthe exposed portion of the strip.
4-7. ln a device ofthe class described, in combination, a hollow,.rotatable cylindrical carrier having a transversely slotted periphery adapted to sustain a surrounding strip of abrading material and to hold Within it a continuous reserve portion of the strip passed through the slot, and means to posi tively clamp the overlapped portions of the strip against the Walls of the slot.
5. ln a device of the class described, in combination, a cylindrical, rotatable carrier open at one end and having an interior hub, the periphery ot' the carrier havingr a trans j verse slotted seat therein, an external clamp/` adapted to .enter said seat and Ytulcrtuned on the carrier, and means to lock the clamp in the seat upon portions of a strip of abradine,r material embracing the periphery of the carriez', the surplus length of the strip passing through the seat into the interior of the carrier and being supported upon the hub.

9. In a device of the class described, in combination, a cylindrical, rotatable carrier open at one end and having' an interior hub,
the periphery of the carrier having a transverse slotted seat therein, an external clamp adapted to entersaid seat and fulcrumed on the carrier, a locking' extension at the open end of the carrier operatively connected with and to swing' said clamp into and out of the seat, the free end of the extension having a segmental-slot therein,'and a lock ing` nut having its shank passed through the slot and screwed into the outer end of the varrier hub, to lock said extension and the clamp with the latter operatively positioned in the peripheral scat of said carrier.
10. An abrading,r cylinder comprising a rotatable clXflindrieal carrier having 'a transverse slotted seat in its periphery, a clamp to enter said scat, a lever connected with the clamp and pivotally mounted on the carrier and means for securing the parts in adj usted position.
