To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ALLIE F. KEA, residing at Rocky Mount, in the county of Edgecombe and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foldable Hay-Stackers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to portable hay stacking frames and particularly to that kind especially adapted for supporting shocks or stacks of hay in such manner as to afford ventilation and to facilitate the drying of the same, by supporting it slightly out of contact with the ground.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a stacker frame of the general character stated of a very simple and inexpensive construction, in whichv the several parts are so combined and formed that the said frame can be quickly collapsed and folded up, substantially flatwise, to permit of a number of the said frames being stored up in a compact space and in which the part-s are also so arranged whereby the stacker frame can be quickly set up in the eld at the desired point and sustained without the necessity of driving the supporting ends into the ground as in the common way of fastening stacker poles.
My invention is a foldable hay stacker frame embodying the peculiar combination and novel features of construction, all of which is hereinafter explained, specifically pointed out in the appended claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my hay Y stacker, the same being set up in position for use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, portions being in section, and Fig. 3 is a side view thereof, the same being shown in its collapsed and folded up position.
In the practical arrangement, my improved rack frame comprises two sets of side bars or supporting legs 1-1, and the said two sets of legs or supports converge toward the top and the upper ends of each pair of the said legs or members 1-1 are pivotally joined by the bolts 2, with a coupling member 3, which forms the head piece of the stacker frame.
Each set of legs 1-1 is joined at the lower` ends by a cross brace, formed of two sections 4-4, each of which is pivotally bolted to its respective leg l, and the adjacent ends of which abut and are joined by a leaf hinge 5, the latter being secured to the underside of the abutting ends of the sections 4-4, so that the said sections when pulled down to their extended position, become, as it were, interlocking members since they hold the legs 1-1 positively separated, until the hinged joint is broken by forcibly swinging up the brace members 4.
6 6 designate cross bars bolted to the outer sides of each pair of legs 1-1, and the ends 60 of the said members extend beyond the legs to form supporting members for receiving other cross pieces, see 7, Fig. 3, when starting the foundation of the stack.
By reason of joining the opposite sets of side bars 1 to the head piece 3 in the manner shown, permits of folding the two sets of side bars, practically flatwise against each other, see Fig. 3, and so compactly that a number of the frames can be readily stored up in a small space within the barn.
The frame can be quickly extended for being set up for use, and the stack can be easily built up on the said frame and supported against toppling over, and for holding the stack to the desired condition more satisfactorily than is possible when using the ordinary pole driven in the ground and forming the stack around the same.
8 indicates additional cross braces for each be folded fiat against the other set of legs, :L spacing member connecting the legs oi' one set With the legs of the opposite set near their lower ends, the said spacing member comprising two sections hinged together, and a. pivotal connection betweeneaoh of the said sections and the leg to Which it is secured, whereby, When the said spacing C.
